I joined the San Diego Lifeguard Summer Kickoff Breakfast with Mayor Gloria, Chief Gartland, Chief Stowell, and all our lifeguards. Summer is here, and that means visitors from all over will flock to our beaches. San Diego Lifeguards are ready! Protecting life is not seasonal, our lifeguards rescued hundreds of residents and pets during the January 22 floods, they fought the Oceanside pier fire from Triton, and they saved lives in dangerous swift water rescues. Lifeguards are heroes and I will continue to fight to give them every needed resource. Thank you all for your service. 🏖️🏊‍♀️ 🌊 🚣

I was proud to stand with my City Council colleagues, Mayor Todd Gloria, IBA Charles Modica, City Attorney Mara Elliott, and City Clerk Diana Fuentes to honor and thank Chief David Nisleit, his wife Darlene, and his family, for 36 years of dedication to San Diego. I appreciate conversations with the Chief, early in my term, that helped me understand the complexities of public service. It was my honor to work alongside him to keep San Diego with the lowest crime rate among the nation’s big cities. I wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.

City Council unanimously approved funding to repair Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach damaged by severe winter storms. The city declared a state of emergency and closed the public half of the pier.

The Budget Review Committee meets on Friday, June 7, at 9 AM to discuss potential modifications to the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget and the full City Council meets on Tuesday, June 11, for adoption.
