IDs Out, On, and Visible!
Mr. Niggli visited Mr. Lopez's and Ms. Boffone's classes and 100% of students in these two classes had their IDs out,on, and visible. To celebrate this, Mr. Niggli provided a pizza party to both classes. Bellaire students are doing a great job having their IDs on campus. IDs are an important layer in school safety. If a student forgets their ID they can purchase a temporary ID for $1 as they enter the building. If a student does not have a $1, they are issued a temporary ID and the IOU is entered into the system. New IDs can be purchased on School Pay and IDs ordered here on our website.

CTE MONTH
This year Career Technology and Education (CTE) month’s slogan is “Celebrate Today, Own Tomorrow”. Bellaire would like to take a moment to highlight the different CTE programs on campus. Bellaire currently has seven different career strands for students to choose from. The programs of study currently offered are Animal Science, Plant Science, Business Management, Marketing & Sales, Graphic Design & Multimedia Arts, Programming & Software Development, and Family & Community Services. Most of the pathways offer students at least one industry-based certification in their field of study.

CTE plays an integral part in educational system. CTE programs allow students to experience coherent and rigorous content to help them be successful in the modern workplace. It also provides students with real-world connections to different occupations, helps develop career skills, and improves graduation rates.

Please see Mr. Lloyd, Ms. Andrews, or your counselor if you are interested in a CTE pathway offered at Bellaire.

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Each February, young adults and educators work to raise awareness and focus on advocacy and education to stop dating abuse before it starts. This year’s theme for TDVAM is “Be About It”, where the focus is to amplify the voices of teens and young adults and promote positive and healthy relationships. Wondering how you can get involved?
  • Talk about the issue – discuss the warning signs of dating abuse and create a positive connection to the issue such as characteristics of healthy relationships
  • Become an ambassador – That’s Not Cool Ambassador Program is an opportunity for teens to raise awareness with friends, family, and the community through monthly challenges
  • Know how to get help – check out the list of resources available in Houston, connect to the National Dating Abuse Helpline, and talk to your counselor or trusted adult at Bellaire

Freedom from Period Poverty
As you read before, the Italian National Honor Society is sponsoring the Freedom From Period Poverty Project to allow female students to find free hygiene product in the baskets placed in the girls' restrooms in the whole school. It is wonderful to see donations coming from the whole country! We are running low with products and the project still needs even the smallest donations to help us go through the Spring Semester. We need your help! Our project is funded through Donors Choose and this is the link to it if you can donate or just share the link on your social media:
https://www.tinyurl.com/BHSFreedom2022. I also invite you to visit our school's page on Donors Choose to verify the incredible impact teacher created projects have had on the school's budget: https://www.tinyurl.com/BellaireDC.

If you simply prefer to send products our way, we collect them in room 3721.

Library News
January was our first full month in the new space. It has been a delight to say the least.
Here are some amazing statistics from our first full month of 2023 in our completed library space!
We had 694 books checked out in the library during January. The freshman class is still leading in the amount of checkouts. We have increase our checkout limits to allow students to decide how many books they can be responsible for.
Ms. Carpenter has taught 51 classes in the month of January. These classes have ranged from Research classes, to AP statistics doing a project in the library, multiple scavenger hunts and library tours.
We have had 6,317 student sign ins in the library this month. When we combine overall sign ins for the entire school year- we have nearly reached 10k sign ins. The students have been visiting the Makerspace and the study rooms.
Reminder for students- we will be hosting a 3D printing training 2/13-2/17 during lunch. Students will have to sign up in advanced to attend.
Last Friday, Ms. Carpenter found out some good news!! Our ESSER Funding title list has been accepted by Mackin, our library vendor, and they will be shipping new books to the library between 90-120 days! This will add nearly 5k books to our library!
If you, your teacher, or your club, would like to collaborate with Ms. Carpenter and the library please reach out to Ms. Carpenter via email, kaitlyn.carpenter@houstonisd.org
