Smart Start of Pender County provides child care subsidy funding to Pender County Department of Social Services to assist families with childcare to support employment and educational training. Smart Start of Pender County has a contractual agreement with Pender County Department of Services to administer these funds. The subsidy funds have been designated to be used in child care facilities with four and five stars. Stars are awarded from the NC Division of Child Development and Early Education. The star rating scale is based on staff education and program standards. Smart Start of Pender County aligns with the North Carolina Partnership for Children philosophy that its subsidy spending drives quality child care for all children.
