A Note From Interim Superintendent

CRCSD Parents and Community,

This is a challenging time of transition for CRCSD. People are mourning the loss of a great superintendent and person in Noreen Bush, and the school board is faced with the critical duty of hiring their next superintendent. I have put my retirement on hold to serve the district as interim superintendent until the next leader begins. I am humbled and honored to have this opportunity and will work hard to serve the district well.

Please look for communications from me through this weekly Future Ready Today newsletter, on our social media platforms, via direct email, and at the board meetings. I know that the Cedar Rapids community is involved with and supportive of their schools. I hope the community will stay attuned to school issues and participate in important decisions.

I appreciate the opportunity to join the team that is serving the learners of Cedar Rapids Community School District!

Sincerely,

Art Sathoff

Interim Superintendent

Get Ready for the Cancellation, Delay and Early Dismissal Season

Oh, Iowa, why must you have such extreme temperature swings? We all loved temperatures in the 70's this week, but really? Today's high in the mid-30s? It is November, and with a hint of snow in the forecast. It's best to give you a refresher on the weather cancellation, delay, and early dismissal procedures for the cold and windy time of the school year.

Parents and guardians, it is important to make sure your contact information in Infinite Campus is correct so you receive important weather-related communications. Infinite Campus provides data to our CRCSD communications tool School Messenger. Learn more about using Infinite Campus here.

Young Artists Etch Color on City of Cedar Rapids Snowplow

Students in the Mural Club at Hoover Community School have put the finishing touches on a piece of art. This snowplow is from the City of Cedar Rapids and will be moving through the streets this winter, removing snow.

With assistance from the Hoover art teacher, Renee Reedich, and support from the Eastern Iowa Arts Academy, the students painted the front of a City of Cedar Rapids snowplow.

Reedich adds the student's favorite part of the process was using spray paint to cover the plow.

”I am extremely proud of my mural club students. They were so excited and enthusiastic through the whole process," says Reedich. "They have a lot of pride in their work and school. I feel the plow displays this in so many ways!”

So be on the lookout for this snowplow, and the Hoover Community School hopes it makes your winter experience a little brighter.

Football Post Season Honors

CRCSD would like to share these members of our three high school football teams. These awards come from the Mississippi Valley Conference for 5A football and the District Conference for 4A football.

Congratulations to all these individuals on their outstanding efforts on the gridiron.

STEM Day Activities

Students across the CRCSD observed National STEM day Tuesday by sharpening their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Skills.

Johnson STEAM Academy Magnet School 2nd-graders created models of insects out of everyday materials and had to identify body parts and their functions. 3rd-graders built a building and counted the number of squares within the construction material to determine the value of the building.

The CRCSD includes art as a STEM field emphasizing innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
