MESSAGE FROM RICKY

Dear Friends,

I have a confession to make: I don't like them! You know who I'm talking about, them! Those people over there. They don't think like me, or look like me, or root for the same team as me. I don't want to even be around them. They might get their wrongness on me! (Just don't ask me who "They" are!)

One of the basic human tendencies is to see the world through the lens of "us" vs. "them." We divide ourselves up into groups, tribes, and cliques. But the Gospel of Jesus calls us to be bridge builders. The Gospel is not meant for just one type of person, one culture, or one language. In fact in Ephesians 2:14, Paul reminds us that Jesus came to break down all the walls we build between ourselves!

This Sunday, we're beginning a new sermon series called "Bridge Builders." This is a series on Jesus' call to unity in the midst of culture that is so divided. Being a person who strives for unity often gets you called names. People might call you "wishy-washy" or "weak." But peacemakers are some of the strongest people you will ever meet.

There is so much division and disunity in our world today. If you've ever wondered, "What does Ricky really think about all this?" come to worship this month to find out!

Grace and Peace,

Ricky

MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK

A CHURCH OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY

by: Rev. Katie Giedd

I grew up in a church that had community events every single day, multiple times a day. I am a firm believer that the church should minister to the community, and one of the ways that we can do this is by letting organizations use our spaces when we can.

This last week, we were able to host the Mississippi Annual Conference's new Bishop and the Cabinet. We are so thankful for our incredible hostesses - if you see Becky Robinson, Linda McBrayer, or Chip and Dianne Alford, give them a high five for a job well done!
