Lassen Office of Education Launches Sticker Contest for Students and Educators
The Lassen County Office of Education has announced the return of its popular Sticker Contest, inviting all students and educators across the county to showcase their creativity and promote wellness through art.
Contestants design a custom sticker, and selected winners will have their artwork printed and distributed throughout the county.
“In 2023, LCOE received 32 submissions with parental signatures, resulting in 9 winning stickers being printed,” explains LCOE Communications Specialist Kaitlyn Midgely who added that the goal for 2025 is to encourage even more students and educators to engage in this creative initiative.
| |
|
The artwork needs to be completed on a large, full sheet of paper – no sticker sized art. Any medium like markers, colored pencils, or paint is acceptable.
The entry must be your original work. A parent signature is required for artwork to be printed. A signature from must be attached to the art, complete and legible.
The artwork needs to be inspirational and school appropriate.
Submissions will be collected from attendance offices after April 1st, 2025. You can also drop off entries at the LCOE office, 472-013 Johnstonville Road, Susanville, CA or email your submission to mgray@lcoe.org.
“By participating, students and educators can express themselves through art while promoting positive messages within their schools and communities. LCOE encourages all Lassen County schools to take part in this wellness activity and looks forward to recognizing student and staff winners for their outstanding creativity.”

Nortons and Other British Bikes to be
Featured at June’s Feather River Rally
June 16th through 21st, classic motorcycles and their owners will arrive at the Plumas Sierra County Fairgrounds for the International Norton Owners Association 2025 Feather River Rally III.
This is the third time the INOA rally will enjoy the idyllic setting of Quincy. In 1996, and again in 2016, over three hundred Norton and British motorcycle enthusiasts arrived in Quincy from across North America and around the world to share their interest in these classic motorcycles.
This year’s attendees say that are thrilled at the opportunity to return and once again experience the finest roads, sights and hospitality the Sierra Nevada Mountains have to offer.
Hosted by the Northern California Norton Owners Club, a chapter of the INOA, this year’s rally welcomes all classic and vintage motorcycles and motorcycle enthusiasts.
| |
|
Featured events include “tech talks”, group rides, field events and a swap meet. A highlight of the week is the concours show where rare and unique motorcycles will compete for awards. The concours is open for public viewing.
Everyone who attends can cast their votes for best-in-class Roadster, Interstate, Fastback and many other classes of Norton, British, European, American, and Japanese motorcycles.
Group rides explore the best local roads to great destinations in the region: Bucks Lake, La Porte, Chester, Downieville, Susanville, Portola and more. Mid-week more than one hundred motorcycles will parade west through Quincy on their way to the beautiful Lake Almanor basin.

Susanville CHP Hosting ‘Coffee with a Cop’ This Thursday at Joe’s Coffee Shop
On February 20th, officers from the California Highway Patrol’s Susanville office, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department, the Lassen County District Attorney, the Susanville Police Department and community members will come together in an informal setting to discuss community issues, have coffee, learn about potential careers in law enforcement and to build relationships.
All community members are invited to attend the event which begins at 10:00a.m., at Joe’s Coffee Shop on Main Street.
Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about law enforcement work in Lassen County’s neighborhoods.
| |
|
The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel officers are unapproachable on the street.
Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.
“We hope community members will welcome the opportunity to ask questions, bring concerns forward, or simply get to know our officers,” said CHP Area Commander Lacey Carney. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”
Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the country as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.

Plans for Junior College Alumni Association
February 18, 1939
Instructors at Lassen Junior College and alumni of the college are making arrangements for the formation of a J. C. Alumni Association, which will hold its first meeting in the assembly room of the high school, Thursday, March 2nd, at 8:00p.m.
Many old students have seen the need for a group of this kind. They plan to sponsor a drive for general betterment of the college, as well as to renew old friendships.
Lassen J. C. has risen from “pup” to a full fledged scholastic institution, since its founding 13 years ago. At the time of institution there were only a few students enrolled in Junior College, now with well over 100 students on the membership rolls, the college has become an integral part of the local school system.
“Old Grads” say other junior colleges and colleges benefit from an active alumni association and various Lassen alumni have voiced their opinion that the local college should have such an organization.
