One Year with the Nicholson Administration

This January 3rd marks the one-year anniversary of my inauguration as the City of Lynn's 59th Mayor.

In 2022, we took bold steps together and achieved significant accomplishments and milestones, as well as meeting several of our goals for the year. From the beginning, I have been committed to providing forward-thinking leadership and inclusive growth for all Lynners. In working towards these goals, we set a path for advancing equitable solutions and community sustainability for the City.

This progress would not be possible without our amazing team in the Mayor’s Office and throughout the City, our close collaboration with the City Council, School Committee, state and federal delegation, and our partnership with community and business leaders.

It is an honor to serve as your Mayor and I am excited to enter 2023 with an ambitious agenda to continue to drive the City forward. All that we have accomplished would not have been possible without the support of our community. Thank you to all who helped make this year so special!

Major Highlights

Harbor Park Tour

Grateful to Governor Baker for visiting Lynn and touring the Harbor Park site. This project reimagines open-space in the City of Lynn and unlocks the potential for new recreational areas on the waterfront.

Upon completion, the Harbor Park will feature 30+ acres of trails and green space unlike anywhere else in Greater Boston.

Pickering Middle School Site Selection

Thank you to all who attended the Site Selection Community Forum for the Pickering School Building Project and communicated their thoughts and questions.

With the upcoming construction of a new Pickering Middle School, we are committed to keeping our residents informed throughout this process, listening to community input, and highlighting the overall vision for the school and our students.

If you were unable to attend, the presentation and recording are available on the Pickering School Building Project website.

New Art Installations at City Hall

Thankful for the Raw Art Works youth for their art, which is now displayed at City Hall. This exhibit truly showcases their dreams and aspirations for both their community and the world!

I was incredibly moved by the powerful conversations we shared and the talents of the artists.

Congrats to Joenel Aguero

Congratulations to Joenel Aguero on his designation as an All-American and the 2022 MaxPreps Massachusetts Player of the Year!

We are incredibly impressed by your talent on the field and extremely proud of all your hard work and dedication. Your efforts have elevated the City and we wish you nothing but the best as you begin your next chapter with the University of Georgia!

City Santa

In December, I helped deliver Christmas presents to several elementary schools across the City!

Thank you to all our community partners, particularly the Parks & Recreation Department and Lynn Public Schools’ clinicians, for helping to create a more bright and merry holiday season for families and students in need.

Inclusionary Zoning

My administration is thrilled to announce that after close collaboration with the City Council, the Planning Department, the Law Department, and EDIC, we passed an inclusionary zoning proposal that will help us create further affordable housing opportunities for our residents.

The School Committee also conducted public interviews for each candidate and unanimously selected Dr. Evonne Alvarez to lead the Lynn Public Schools as the new Superintendent in the Spring of 2023.

New Pickering Middle School Location

In December, the Pickering School Building Committee voted to approve the committee's top site choice for the new Pickering Middle School, which is Magnolia Park.
