Prayer List

Friends,

Kate Bowler writes insightfully about how the changes in the world around us change us too. We may notice that our bodies, our relationships, our job, our faith is becoming different than what we've known before. To paraphrase her:

The things that once brought us joy.

The way we existed in the world.

The people we love and trust and rely on... everything is different now.

So let her blessing guide us as we navigate the path toward our new self, our new wisdom in being faithful in loving and caring for our community:

"Bless that old self,

they did such a good job with what they knew.

They made you who you were,

all the mistakes and heartbreak and naiveté and courage.

And blessed are who you are now,

you who aren’t pretending things are the same,

who continue to grow and stretch and show up to your life as it really is:

wholehearted, vulnerable, maybe a little afraid.

So blessed are we, the changed." (Kate Bowler)

This week we pray for:

Barbara Mykkanen

Continued prayers for healing and peace for Barb as she recovers from a procedure and awaits consultation with her doctor about next steps.

Dallas, grandson of Linda and Greg Barbu

Continued prayers for healing for Dallas who is recovering from a health challenge requiring hospitalization.

Deb Hostetler

Continued prayers for healing, peace of mind and strength for Deb as she continues her chemo treatment and grapples with fatigue. We also hold husband Gabe and their children in our love as they support Deb on this journey.

Candace, Juli Douglass-Gillespie's neighbor

Prayers for healing for Candace and comfort and strength for her family. Candace continues to struggle with health issues; she is currently receiving treatment for two different types of pneumonia as well as Covid.

Deborah, Sherry Hatter-Miller's sister

Continued prayers for peace and comfort for Deborah as she is finishing up her last week of radiation on Thursday.

Tamara, Sherry Hatter-Miller's niece

Continued prayers for healing for Tamara as she continues her treatment on her finger.

Brandy, Eric Miller's niece

Continued prayers for Brandy as she undergoes treatment for an aggressive type of breast cancer.

Jim Taggart

Continued prayers for healing for Jim.

Chris Stewart

Continued prayers for healing for Chris, who is recovering from heart surgery at home.

Tom Ewing, Erica Ewing's dad

Continued prayers for healing for Tom. He has resumed his cancer treatment.

Tom Battles

Continued prayers for Tom and Elaine in this new season of life with Tom living in a nursing home.

The Gordon family

Continued prayers for the Gordon family as they grieve Nahida and Don's deaths. If you haven't been able to attend Don's funeral service, you may view the recording here.

We also pray for God's guidance and comfort for

  • our neighbors at the COW Preschool as they prepare to restart activities on September 3. We look forward to seeing little neighbors in our building again;
  • all students, staff and teachers in our city and at the COW as they prepare for a new school year of learning and fun;
  • those healing from medical procedures, and who are dealing with ongoing health concerns in our midst;
  • those who are overwhelmed by the difficult personal situations;
  • those affected by extreme weather conditions and ensuing natural disasters--especially we pray for those in the path of hurricane Debby;
  • all who live in the midst of violence and war - in Gaza and Israel, Ukraine and Russia, Congo and El Salvador, and many other places across the world;
  • as humanitarian shelters are being destroyed in Gaza, as over 80,000 people are in prison without due process in El Salvador, as fighting goes on near a nuclear reactor in the Kursk region in Russia, your peace, O God, to overcome our dependence on violence and warfare;
  • those who strive for justice, may their voices be heard and heeded;
  • in thanksgiving for all who use their skills and resources for the common good;
  • your church to build up the beloved community across the world.

May we embody God's light, love, compassion, and hope to all we encounter.

Thanksgiving for Open Arms Hispanic Ministries

Summer Kids' Camp Volunteers

Thank you again, Westminster family, for your generous gifts of time and talent during the Open Arms Hispanic Ministries' summer Kids' Camp. A special thank you to Barbara Tartir, Juli Gillespie, Victoria Birk, Susan English, Lynne Hamrick, Erica Ewing, Bill Weiss and Cheryl Weiss for their help with weekly projects (crafts, gardening, cooking, reading, dancing, and much more) and with the end-of-camp pool party and picnic. Westminster also provided several lunches for campers.

14th Annual Break the Cycle

Westminster will once again be a Gold Sponsor of Break the Cycle in support of OneEighty next Saturday, August 24, 2024. Our church's donation will support treatment and prevention services for the homeless working with OneEighty. Last year we fielded a team of 20 bikers and walkers. Walkers and bikers can choose to begin their walk or ride at the fairgrounds in Wooster or at the Hipp Station in Millersburg.

If you would like to bike or walk with our Westminster Team, please complete a registration form and return it to Lemoine Peart at church or to her mailbox in the church office. Registration forms are available in Mackey Hall, the church office or from any Benevolences Committee member.

There is no cost to participate if you turn in your paper registration and release forms at church.

For more information check out the Break the Cycle website or email or call Lemoine at lwmn@bright.net or 330-624-7506 (home).

Hope to see you there!

Prayer Request and Privacy Laws

Please note, that because of government privacy laws, hospitals and care centers no longer are allowed to notify churches that a person has been admitted (even if the person lists their home church at admission). The only way that the church staff will know if someone is hospitalized is if a family member or friend lets us know. We'd rather get 20 calls about the same person than none! Thanks for your help in making Westminster a caring community. Contact the Westminster Office by phone 330-263-2398 or email to notify the church if you or someone you know is hospitalized or otherwise in need of our prayers!
