Community, Peace, and Transformation:
Perspectives of Iranian-American Women

On Sunday, November 12, 2017, IAW Foundation partnered with Georgetown University's Persian Language and Culture Program and presented a panel entitled Community, Peace, and Transformation: Perspectives of Iranian-American Women. The panelists included three women whole-heartedly engaged in different social justice fields.

One of our three panelists included Leila Milani, a Senior International Policy Advocate for Futures Without Violence, where she leads their work on global violence prevention, with a focus on women and children. While sharing her work and her story, Leila expressed the importance of moving from a perspective of individual prosperity to valuing collective prosperity.

Another panelist, Anusce Sanai, supervising immigration and family law attorney at the Tahirih Justice Center, shared her experience providing legal representation for women and girls who have courageously escaped gender based violence. Anusce echoed Leila's words and expressed the importance of how transformation must start from the individual self.

The third panelist Yosi Badie, the division manager of the Petey Greene Program DC region, where she works to improve the quality of education for incarcerated individuals, encouraged the audience to maximize their privilege and utilize it towards supporting collective prosperity.

The panel was an enlivening and inspiring discussion, and we are thankful for our amazing panelists and all our members who attended. A special thank you to Farima Mowstofi at Georgetown University's Persian Language and Culture Program for sponsoring the event. We look forward to all our future DC Chapter events.

Malekeh Amini    is the Founder and CEO of  Trayt (previously known as AVA Health Technologies). She is also a mother of a child who suffers from brain-based disorders.

The lack of answers she was receiving from a variety of physicians and therapists regarding the health of her child, led to the creation of Trayt.

Trayt is a patient-centric data analytics company that is improving diagnosis, treatments and quality of life for patients with autism, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental and brain disorders by creating tools to measure efficacy of all interventions, and by engaging the entire system of care to continuously track, measure, and share behavioral and medical outcomes.

The company has just launched the  Trayt app, a track-and-map application  for parents, caregivers, and physicians that collects and analyzes comprehensive, individualized health data to facilitate a more rapid and relevant response to the daily challenges that confront patients with brain-based disorders.
