The 2023 Winter Reading Challenge Comes to a Close

The 2023 Winter Reading Challenge, 'All the Feels' sponsored by Beanstack has come to a close. We are proud to say our patrons surpassed most of the goals we set! In total, 140 readers logged reading, 1,093 books were logged,and 99 participants completed the challenge by reading at least four books. Thank you to everyone who participated, attended our skating party, and to all the local businesses who contributed.

2023 Board Members Sworn In

On January 12, Board of Education Member, Rick Mains swore in library board members Bill Wendel and Debbie Watson. We would like to thank both of them for their dedication and service to the library.

Closed for Staff In-Service Day

On Monday, February 20th, the library will be closed for a staff In-Service Day. We look forward to serving our patrons when we reopen on Tuesday, February 21st.

Tipp City High School's English Class Visits the Library

The library hosted 165 Tipp City High School English students today to select a book for their upcoming author research project. Students were also taught how to use the library databases to help them with their studies. We are proud to be a resource and partner to Tipp City Schools.

Covid Tests Available

The library once again has covid tests available for pick up. Stop in to pick yours up.

Hoopla Bonus Borrows Are Back

Spread the news... hoopla Bonus Borrows are back for the month of February! Patrons can choose from more than a hundred titles in our Bonus Borrows collection. These hoopla Instant titles will require ZERO patron borrows.

Events Planned for the Whole Family

Art Spark:Heart Painting

February 9

4:00 - 5:00 p.m.


Art Spark will take place on Thursday, February 9 from 4 - 5:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room downstairs with Ms. Julie.

  

In honor of Valentine's Day, we'll be painting colorful hearts in the style of Jim Dine, a Cincinnati-born artist whose work spans over 60 years. Hearts are a common theme of his work. We'll use permanent acrylic paint, so make sure not to wear your best clothes.  


This program is open to kids in grades 3 - 8. Registration is required by Wed. Feb. 8 at 5:00 p.m. on the Children’s Programs webpage, or call the library at 937-667-3826 and register with the front desk staff.

February Family Nights: Puppet Making & Minute to Win It Games

Tuesday, February 14 join Ms. Julie and Ms. Heidi from 6:30-7:30 PM for puppet making in the Meeting Room downstairs.  This program is appropriate for caregivers with children aged 4-11 years.  Take your projects home and entertain the family with 

a puppet show!


Tuesday, February 28 come back from 6:30-7:30 PM for hilarious family challenges, based on the hit show, “Minute to Win It”.  The whole family will laugh and enjoy our silly games.


February Kids Guessing Contest

Stop in the Children’s area between Feb. 3-14 and guess how many hearts are in the jar by Ms. Julie & Ms. Heidi’s desks.  The person who comes closest to the correct number, without going over, will win a prize bag!

Creative Corner-February 3-11

In honor of Valentine’s Day, there will be materials for children to make heart collages or a Valentine’s Card for their sweetie! We’ll supply the materials in the Creative Corner in the Children’s area, you supply the creativity.


Upcoming Programs for 6th-12th Grade Youth

Teen Tinker Lab

Youth in grades 6-12th grade, join us in the Teen Den to make a sweet note shaped like your favorite Valentine candy- Sweethearts.  Leave your sweet message hearts on our teen bulletin board or keep them to give to your sweeties!

Sewing Saturdays with Ms. Jeri

Join Jeri Goins, the Teen Librarian Assistant, one Saturday a month to sew.  This program will be open to youth in grades 4-12.  All skill levels are welcome to learn basic hand swearing and embroidery techniques, how to use a sewing machine, and how to build a project.


Meet in the teen area each month to find out what the new project is, or bring in your own work from home to get help from Ms. Jeri.  The next meeting will be on Saturday, February 18 from 2-3 PM.

Teen Contest- Blackout Poetry

Express your thoughts and feelings in a poem by REMOVING WORDS! Take a page from the discarded books in the Teen Den and blackout the words you don’t want in your poem. What you’re left with is a work of art.


Show your poem to the staff at the Teen Desk and earn a small prize. Show-off your poem on social media using the hashtag #TCPLteenpoetry.

I Love Gaming - Teen Video Game Party

Come play video games on the giant screen in the meeting room on Tuesday, February 21 from 5:30-7:30 PM. Help us break-in the library’s new Nintendo Switch and have some fun challenging your friends! Bring your personal Nintendo Switch from home so more people can get in on the fun. There will be snacks and drinks and various video game competitions. For youth in grades 6-12.

Overdue for a Brew: The Brewing Process and Its Impact on Style & Flavor

David will walk through the basics of the brewing process in an easy-to-understand way while guiding us through a tasting of excellent beers. This event is 21 & up only.
