4 things you need to know

Accelerating the Mental Health Workforce

What's new: We are thrilled to announce the selection of 12 sites from across Georgia for Cohort 3 of the National Mental Health Workforce Acceleration Collaborative (NMHWAC) Post-Master’s Program!

Why it matters: The NMHWAC is a partnership with Resilient Georgia, Kaiser Permanente, National Council for Mental Wellbeing, Metro State University – Denver, and Colorado Health Institute to address the mental health and substance use treatment workforce shortage and to increase the number of diverse licensed clinicians serving clients.

What's next? We are also excited to share that 16 Pre-Master’s Fellows were recently selected from 8 academic partners across the state. Stay tuned for more!

Updated Resilient Georgia Speakers Bureau

What's new: We have enhanced the Resilient Georgia Speakers Bureau by updating the resource and inviting new subject-matter experts to join.

Why it matters: This platform is designed to connect our partners and regional coalitions with experts and advocates in various fields. Your knowledge and experience are invaluable, and we would love for you to fill in the survey yourself, as well as refer speakers in your networks as part of this initiative.

To participate: Please fill out the survey yourself and/or share this email and survey with other subject-matter experts in your network who would be valuable additions to our Speakers Bureau.

*If you are making a suggestion but don't have a direct connection to the speaker, please send their name to Alex English, at aenglish@resilientga.org.

Prenatal Mental Health

What's new: Our Prenatal Mental Health Learning Card is now available in 11 additional languages (Burmese, Chinese/Hong-Kong, Chinese/Simplified, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Ukrainian) spoken in Georgia, as we have done with our other learning cards, in an effort to continue to reach mental health under-served communities.

Why it matters: The Prenatal Mental Health Learning Card is for expectant people to share during an OB visit/add to an OB packet. It addresses the importance of mental health, stress reduction, brain development in utero, and provides accessible action steps and links to helpful Georgia and national resources. Click here for infographic and print friendly versions available for download.

  • We are grateful to have received subject matter expert review and input for this learning card from our Executive Board Member Dr. Michele Smith, our Education and Training Committee, and our partners - Chris 180: Infant Early Childhood Mental Health, Georgia Center for Child Advocacy: Prevention and Education, Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Georgia, Peace For Moms and Postpartum Support International - Georgia.

If you would like to co-brand them, we can make that happen too - please contact us for more information. We are proud to have received 350+ co-branding requests for our previously published six learning cards on Adverse Childhood Experiences, Early Brain Development, Positive Childhood Experiences, Toxic Stress, Resilience, and being Trauma Informed.

ACEs and Language Development

What's new: Maithree Venkatesan, a recent MPH graduate from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, authored a blog discussing how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) can impact language development.

Bottom line: Mental health workers need to be aware of the potential communication delays and disorders that may arise in children who have experienced trauma, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative approach in providing holistic care.
