Samsung’s 8K News at CES 2023


In November 2022, Insight Media received a confidential briefing in Korea on Samsung’s TV plans for 2023, with reporting only allowed as of January 4th. Here, we summarize the main 8K news from Samsung. We will be back next week with details from the ground in Vegas.

Nyriad & Atto Enable Real-Time Network Editing of 8K Video


Nyriad has seen a 2.5x performance benefit from the use of a new UltraIO storage system that can save up to 2.5 days on a project. Why 8K OLEDs and QD-OLEDs are So Difficult to Make


A recent news item from Korea caused some excitement in the 'gadget' press. An ephemerous press release from a U.S. company called Kateeva, which makes large inkjet printers, said that it had supplied the printers to a leading QD-OLEDs manufacturer for 8K TVs and high-resolution monitors. Wile this is good news for QD-OLED didplays, it does not mean 8K versions are coming quickly or that they will be inexpensive. Read Bob Raikes' article is here to understand why.

Global 8K TV sales to decline for first time in 2023 on EU rule


We are waiting for CES to hear more from the major TV brands on how they plan to react to the new EU energy regulations that will impact TV sales, but Omdia has already determined the regulations will have a negative effect on sales. Pre-CES: LG 2023 OLED TV G3 "up to 70% brighter"


In pre-CES news, LG Europe announced new 2023 TV models. According to this FlatPanelsHD article, the 8K Z3 line should get a 30-40% brightness boost to 1350 nits in Vivid mode (window not specified). However, some sizes in the G3 (4K) line will add the microlens array technology, debuted at SID last year, to get a 70% brightness boost (2100 nits in Vivid mode and 235 nits full screen). Xiaomi 8K Dual Cam Drone at $105.99


The days when drones equipped with cameras were an expensive novelty seems like yesterday. Now, specialized film-making drones have become accessible to the consumer.
