2024 Howard County Walktober

Join the Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition (HCLHIC) in celebrating Walktober 2024!

Walktober is celebrated in October across Maryland as part of our State's official exercise and a call to action to promote walking for physical activity and improved health for residents of all ages and abilities.

Community Health Worker Awareness Week

National Community Health Worker (CHW) Awareness Week is August 26th - 30th. Join the Howard County Health Department (HCHD) in increasing awareness of CHW identity, roles, impact on communities, and leadership.

The Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition (HCLHIC) is also pleased to launch the CHW Learning Collaborative starting in Fall 2024. Email LHIC@howardcountymd.gov if you would like to be involved.

The Club For Middle & High Schoolers

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore is accepting applications for Middle and High Schoolers to join The Club at Howard Community College (HCC). This is a FREE program and will serve dinner to all members, and offer programming in various topics like sports, art, STEM, workforce development, and many more!

Classes: Starting August 26, 2024, Monday - Friday 2:30 - 6:30pm at HCC (10901 Little Patuxent Pkwy, Columbia, MD 21044)

Student Eye Needs

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) Community Schools new Health Specialist, Shannon Blount, is excited to start in her new role.

One of her main goals is finding programs/ grants/ organizations to help provide comprehensive eye exams and glasses for students who fail their in-school vision screenings and have limited funds or insurance coverage.

Cancer Coalition

The Howard County Health Department (HCHD) will be starting a Cancer Coalition in Fall 2024.

The Coalition will meet quarterly and will focus efforts on items related to Cancer including available services, resources and data. To learn more, check out the invitation letter here.
