THE THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN PENTECOST

August 18, 2024

Dear George,

August 11 was our monthly second Sunday children's homily with the Rector, and afterwards the children joined Canon Francis at the Altar.

This coming Sunday will see the baptism of Cassander Escott, and once again, as always at baptisms, the children will join in the witnessing of this Sacrament.

Our new ministry 'Cortando el pelo de Jésus' commenced last week, with professional barbers and stylists volunteering one Saturday a month to offer free haircuts at Alma, a local retirement center, and at a local rehab center for young people leaving addiction. (A few photos at the retirement center below).

Raquel Martin, Carol Troy, and Sunni Putnam have recently made significant donations to our medical closet, allowing us to continue offering to the community, a well-stocked medical closet, of which Mexicans and ex-pats alike frequently avail themselves. We have a stock of walkers, wheelchairs, crutches and other items we we loan at no charge.

Following a pastoral visitation to Santiago de Apostol in Querétaro, our bishop, the Right Reverend Alba Sally Sue Hernández Garcia, journeyed to San Miguel for the night discussing matters of import and a nice repast and rest, departing Monday morning for Mexico City. She puts a great many miles on her car as she checks in on her widely spread flock!

Grace and peace,

BIBLE STUDY ON ROMANS BEGINS IN SEPTEMBER

“It is impossible to read or to meditate on this letter too much or too well,”

wrote Martin Luther in 1522 in the preface to his commentary on the Letter

to the Romans. For Luther and for many other theologians and Biblical

scholars over the centuries, St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans is the very

heart of the gospel. Luther speaks for many when he writes, “This letter is

truly the most important piece in the New Testament.” Centuries later,

Swiss theologian Karl Barth’s rocked the world of theology in 1919 when

his Commentary on Romans was published.

So…what does this New Testament letter contain? Why is it so important

to our Christian faith? How do its truths apply in our day and age?

Come and find out when Father Frank Hebert leads a Bible Study on

Monday mornings at 10am at the Church beginning Monday, September 2.

You will be challenged intellectually by this densely written theological

treatise. You will be surprised by how it speaks to our modern age. And

you will be inspired to deeper faith and insight.

All are welcome, and there is no cost to participate, but please sign up by

contacting the Church Office at stpaulmanagementSMA@gmail.com so

that enough study materials can be prepared. For questions, contact Fr.

Frank at fnhebert@gmail.com
