Appreciation for Personal Trainers this January

January is National Personal Trainer Awareness Month and it couldn’t come at a better time as many people prioritize exercise and physical health as a part of their New Year’s resolutions! Let's appreciate the men and women who guide, train and motivate us this month.

"Trainer Tip" - Rules to Follow When Stretching

Stretching keeps your muscles flexible, strong and healthy, and we need flexibility to maintain a good range of motion. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.

Here are a couple rules to follow:

  1. Warm-up before stretching with light cardio, jogging or walking in place for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Take your time, hold each stretch for 15 to 30 second intervals for up to 4 sets.
  3. Relax during your stretching, use slow and controlled breathing.
  4. When performing a stretch you should feel discomfort, but never pain.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree

When it's time to take down the holiday décor (or when the branches and needles start to dry out), Liberty Parks & Rec makes it easy to recycle your Christmas tree.

Drop off your undecorated, live trees at Bennett Park (1100 N Clayview Dr.) to be chipped and recycled into natural trail resurfacing.

So far this year, more than 600 trees have been dropped off and chipped.

Trees will be accepted through Jan. 30.
