Spring Luncheon

Welcome to the 2024-25 Council of 101 year!

Reflecting on my time as President- Elect, it has been a whirlwind of growth and learning. I thank Lisa Sheppard for her invaluable leadership and unwavering friendship; her daily support has been my anchor through this journey.

Your 2024-2025 Board of Directors are dedicated women committed to our mission. Many are serving for a second year. We will be a strong team, and I look forward to serving with you.

I am delighted to introduce our accomplished women who have accepted appointed positions:

Linda Cegelis, returning as the Corporate Lease Chair; Rachel Steele, taking on the crucial roles of Parliamentarian and By-Laws Chair; Andrea

Balanzategui, leading as the E-Commerce & Technology Chair; Stefaney Giordano, spearheading the Festival of Trees 2024 as Chair; Stacia Aman, overseeing the Festival of Trees 2024 Overall Design as Chair and Stacie Porcher, returning as the

Hospitality Chair. Each of these roles plays a vital part in our mission, and I have full confidence in their abilities.

Our Annual Spring Luncheon at the Orlando Country Club was a delightful affair, filled with warmth and celebration of our collective achievements. We welcomed the 2024-2025 Council of 101 Board of Directors, along with 25 new Active members and 34 new Provisional members. To our new Active members, you have set the bar high, and we look forward to the great things you will accomplish. To our new Provisionals, your journey ahead is significant, but we trust in your capabilities to rise to the occasion.

Let's delve into the numbers—$300,000, $450,000, and $470,000—the substantial annual gifts we have bestowed upon the Orlando Museum of Art in

recent years. This year, we exceeded all expectations with a groundbreaking gift of $510,000 presented to Mark Elliott, Chairman of the Orlando Museum of Art,

Board of Trustees, by Lee Nimkoff and Lisa Sheppard. This significant milestone, when combined with the value of volunteer hours contributed, serves as a

testament to the Council's unwavering commitment to the museum and our community. Your financial support is instrumental in our collective success.

A special recognition is due to Mary McAndrew, Regina Pommer, Gail Bove and Cathy Cascio (The Tiny Orchid) for their artistic contributions that elevated our luncheon to a truly special event. Your creativity and talent added a unique touch to our celebration, and we are grateful for your dedication to our cause.

As we embark on the 38th annual Festival of Trees 2024, I want to share this year's theme and overall design. The Festival will be held from November 15th through 24th.

Festival of Trees

Let the Joy of the Season Shine

Although early in the planning stages, the theme is about embracing the joy and magic of the Holiday Season while basking in the glow of silver, gold, and metallic accents. Let the Joy of the Season Shine décor will be elegantly festive with a sophisticated touch of glamour and will entail shimmering decorations of silver and gold ornaments, crystals, metallic garland, and twinkling lights. The museum

will be elegant and enchanting, with a sense of jubilant celebration and warmth.

Lastly, I sincerely thank the 2023-2024 board, Vanessa Cruz, and our entire Council of 101 membership. Your support during my personal challenges has been

a source of immense comfort. Let's continue to uplift and support each other as we strive to enrich the museum and foster a stronger Orlando community.

Remember, the friendships we forge along this journey are priceless.

As your President, I am always here to listen and eager to connect at our next General Meeting on Thursday, May 23, at 6:00 p.m. (5:30 p.m. social time) at the museum. Let's make this year one of unity, growth, and continued success.

Provisional Class News

Our 2024-25 Provisional Class is off to a great start.

These 34 women are excited to bring energy and creativity to The Council of 101. We have had our first provisional meeting together and they are starting to get to know one another. Be sure to look for them at the General Membership meetings and introduce yourselves. They are eager to get to know the 101 members. They will definitely be around, working the sign in table and helping at the summer luncheon.

If you are sponsoring a new provisional, please be sure to check in with them periodically. Invite them to sit with you at a General Membership Meeting. They will be excited to share the provisional year news with you and ask a few 101 questions. They may even be contacting you this summer to ask for sponsorship of wreaths and small trees for Deck The Halls. Thank you for finding us so many interesting and outstanding women.

Be sure and look for their gold name tags!

Membership News

Welcome to a new Council of 101 year! For those who may not know me, my name is Donna Neck and I joined Council 101 in 2015. I have been serving on the board for the past two years, most recently as the VP of Marketing and Media as well as the Festival of Trees Chair. I am honored to be your President-Elect and look forward to getting to know the entire membership better.

Allison has asked me to chair the Summer luncheon that will be held on July 25th and I will start planning that annual event along with the Membership Committee very soon. This is always a favorite event and I look forward to seeing you there!

We will also oversee the planning of our Mix & Mingles to recruit new members and I have challenged myself and the committee to come up with other fun membership activities for this year. If you have any new ideas, please reach out!

As a reminder, it is that time of year when we need to pay our Council of 101 financial obligations and renew our Orlando Museum of Art memberships.

Provisional Class of 2023-24 wrap-up...

Hi I’m Kelsey Wolfe

I’ve lived in the Central Florida area since I was 3 and currently reside in Winter Park with my husband, Austin, and my sons Grayson (3) and Teddy (0... born on March 29th!). I did venture to Tallahassee for college, where I was a Florida State Cheerleader.

Go Noles!

Things I enjoy in no particular order, watching college football, being outside in the sunshine, lifting weights, finding an excuse to dress up in a costume/theme wear, anything to do with historic preservation, real estate development/construction, and other community building endeavors.

My work revolves around revitalizing and maximizing the uses of older buildings in the Orlando area and I also currently sit on the Historic Preservation Board for the city of Winter Park.

I truly love being involved in my community, and I love meeting and working with energetic and inspiring women, like everyone I have met through Council of 101 this year.

Hello, I’m Brooks Wilson, a snowbird from Summit, NJ. I was fortunate to have met council member and my sponsor, Carol Smed during the Art in Bloom Mystery Home Tour last year. She kindly introduced me to C101. I am so delighted she did, as I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and working alongside the accomplished and dedicated women of Council 101 in support of OMA this past year!

Originally from the midwest, I graduated from TCU in Ft. Worth, TX where I was an active member of Tri Delta and served on the Panhellenic Board. After graduation, I moved to New York to launch my advertising career; I’ve been on the east coast ever since.

As an Account Manager and Director of Broadcast Business Affairs, I produced and launched campaigns for McCormick, Tetley Tea, Coldwell Banker and Blue Buffalo as well as many other brands.

In Summit, I remain a sustaining member of the Junior

League and have served on the board of both the Women’s Club and Senior Connections.

Most of my family -aside from my fascinating younger

brother who lives in Barcelona with his artist wife- now resides in Memphis, TN where I visit often. I have two nephews, Anders and Brooks who have been my regular travel companions on our yearly Aunt Camp trips.

I am always up for an adventure and enjoy hiking, travel, the Sunday NY Times, trees, summers in Nantucket and my dog, Friday.

A few of my favorite American artists are, Helen

Frankenthaler, Milton Avery, Fairfield Porter, and Hugo

McCloud.

2024 FLORIDA PRIZE IN CONTEMPORARY ART

The Florida Prize in Contemporary Art is organized by the Orlando Museum of Art to bring new recognition to the most progressive artists in the State. Each year OMA’s curatorial team surveys artists working throughout the State before inviting ten to participate. One artist will receive a $20,000 award made possible with the generous support of local philanthropists Gail and Michael Winn. Artists range from emerging to mid-career, often with distinguished records of exhibitions and awards that reflect recognition at national and international levels. In all cases, they are artists who are engaged in exploring significant ideas of art and culture in original and visually exciting ways.
