Broadway Bricks project completed ahead of schedule
Broadway Bricks is an infrastructure and accessibility improvement project for Orangeville’s vibrant downtown area. The project, which commenced in July, was expected to finish at the end of November. However, with a lot of hard work, the concrete sidewalks and interlocking paving stone boulevards were completed by the end of October and there are no remaining impediments to pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Work required in front of the Library has been deferred until Spring 2023 when construction at the Mill Street branch is expected to be completed.

“We want to thank all of our downtown Orangeville businesses for their co-operation throughout the construction project,” said Ray Osmond, Acting CAO. “Our contractors and project teams at the Town have worked very hard over the last year to bring the Broadway Bricks project to completion. We hope residents are now able to take advantage of a more accessible space in Downtown Orangeville.”

Replacement of the sidewalks with new concrete and bricks to provide safer walking surfaces was the largest component of the project. Other elements included:

  • Improved access to downtown storefronts
  • More street furniture, including benches
  • Recycling/garbage stations
  • Water refill stations
  • Electrical resources for musicians and festivals
  • Tree maintenance, including removal and replacement

With the completion of Broadway Bricks, Orangeville’s vibrant downtown will benefit from improved infrastructure and increased accessibility, creating space that can be enjoyed by everyone.
Orangeville Community Plan adopted
A new Community Improvement Plan (CIP) has been adopted by Council. Prepared by Sierra Planning & Management in collaboration with MHBC, the CIP provides evidence-based guidance on the most effective ways to stimulate economic development across a variety of sectors.

Select components of the plan will be implemented in 2023, upon budget approval, and will enable the Town to offer financial incentive programs that encourage property owners to improve the use and appearance of their lands and buildings in select Community Improvement areas. The new CIP is intended to facilitate and encourage broader economic growth, sustainable development, and enhancement of underutilized areas.

The Government of Canada-funded My Main Street Local Business Accelerator program provides $30,000 in funding to local businesses
The Town of Orangeville and the Orangeville Economic Development & Culture office would like to congratulate each of the following small businesses for receiving a My Main Street non-repayable funding contribution of $10,000 to support its main street business.
The Craft Pizza Bar & Italian Eatery opened its doors on July 19 and has been gaining popularity amongst our community. The Accelerator program helped business owner Paul Fuda to purchase a walk-in cooler and kitchen wares. Through the market research provided by the program, Paul was also able to formulate a marketing strategy and learn about his client base in the downtown core. We look forward to The Craft Pizza Bar & Italian Eatery being a prominent business in our downtown.
The Village Refillery applied to the Local Business Accelerator program to help with the costs of relocating to a bigger unit within the Old Mill Hub. Business owner Bruna Rissi was planning to move in October, however after a fire in the building in August, she had to move quickly to find a new location. Bruna was able to secure 5 Mill Street, and in less than three weeks, she was able to renovate the space, bring in new product lines and expand her inventory, in part due to the funding she received from My Main Street. She is now happy in her new location and able to provide more products to meet the needs of her customers.
Business owner Sarah Wick, of SONA Skin Studio, applied to the Local Business Accelerator program to help expand her growing medial esthetics spa. Market research conducted for the business identified key target markets for Sarah to focus her advertising dollars towards and program funding enabled Sarah to purchase new technology to enhance her services and help clients to achieve maximum results from their skin care treatments.
The Local Business Accelerator program is part of an overall Government of Canada investment through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) of $23.5 million to support the recovery and revitalization of main streets and local businesses in southern Ontario.
The Town of Orangeville extends a warm welcome to these new businesses:
