Happy New Year Colleagues!!

I'm looking forward to a great new year full of peace, academic productivity, and patience.

I know you will remember that we are launching a new Center for Innovation jointly with the College of Architecture and Engineering. We are continuing to move forward and are currently hiring the positions that will fill our Center for Innovation. These include a director, a data manager, a biostatistician, and a program manager. Please look forward to further details once those hires are complete.

We are also making progress on our new Institute for Precision Medicine and Minority Health. We are beginning a phase zero of this project in partnership with Lilly corporation and will be excited to announce details as they are forthcoming.

I am pleased and excited to announce that two of our own interim Associate Deans have been placed in permanent positions. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Marjorie Gondré-Lewis and Dr. Daniel Larbi.

Dr. Gondré-Lewis has served as the interim Associate Dean for Faculty Development, and Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) for more than 18 months. She now holds this permanent position. Dr. Gondré-Lewis has done an outstanding job in planning events for faculty development including our annual faculty retreat. She continues to provide outstanding opportunities and communicate those to our faculty. She leads our new faculty orientation which has been very well received. Please continue to support her office and the work she does for all the faculty. Dr Gondré-Lewis and all her efforts is definitely one of the keys to our success here in the College of Medicine.

I am pleased that he has accepted this as a permanent position. Dr. Larbi also plans to expand the number of residency programs to provide more minority physicians in these United States of America. Dr. Larbi has done an outstanding job as the interim and I look forward to his continued success.

I would like to introduce Dr. Carla Davis who is our new department chair for the Department of Pediatrics! Dr. Davis comes to us from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston TX where she was the Division Chief for Allergy and Immunology in the department of Pediatrics at the Texas Children's Hospital.
