Hanukkah
Hanukkah or Chanukah is a Jewish holiday that spans eight days and commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. During Hanukkah, Jewish families gather to light the menorah and enjoy traditional foods, games, and gifts. The holiday starts on the 25th of Kislev on the Hebrew calendar, usually falling in November or December. This year Hanukkah will begin on the night of December 18 and ends on the night of December 26.

Kwanzaa
Kwanzaa is an African American and pan-African holiday created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, a professor of Africana Studies, that celebrates family, community, and culture. The holiday starts on December 26 and ends on January 1. During the week of Kwanzaa, families, and communities organize activities around the seven principles: unity, self-determination, collective work, economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.

MUSM professor recognized for her work in the study of Blast-Induced Neurotrauma
The clinical and experimental research of Dr. Ibolja Cernak focuses on pathophysiology and rehabilitation. With her focus on long-term neurological, behavioral, and multi-organ functional deficits, she works for the advancement of clinical knowledge on blast-induced injuries in military and veteran populations.

Talk Rx Program
Dr. Caroline Anglim is looking for medical students interested in sharing short stories about their clinic experiences or personal lives with an audience of their peers. You don't need any prior training or experience with storytelling. This program will be similar to the Talk RX program at Stanford Medical School. If you are interested in participating in or leading this event, email Dr. Anglim.

PC-ACT Program and Nathan Deal Scholars Program Applications Open in January
Applications for the Primary Care Accelerated Track (PC-ACT) and the Nathan Deal Program will open on January 3, 2022. These scholarship opportunities are available to all first, second, and third-year medical students.

Summer Scholars Pre-Arranged Faculty-Student Project Application
Deadline | January 10
The Summer Scholars Program is a research opportunity for rising second-year medical students. Students will conduct independent research under the direction of a faculty mentor. The Office of Student Research is accepting applications for students interested in starting their independent research during the school year.
To apply, you must complete this application and email it to the Office of Student Research. The deadline to apply is January 10, 2023. If accepted, you will not be required to participate in the Summer Scholars match in the spring.
