The Teen Library Leadership Council is open to teens grades 7-12. We meet 1-2 times a month during the school year (September - June) on Wednesdays from 5-6PM. The LLC plans events and serves as an advisory group for the library. This month, LHS junior, Anna L., offers some insight into her LLC experience.

I decided to sign up for the LLC after hearing my friends talk about new events they were working on and the fun times they had during meetings. Cary Library is significant to me, and through the LLC I can impact the community I care so much about. During my time, I have found that the LLC empowers teens in the Cary Library community by providing a space for their voices to be heard and bringing to life events designed by teens for teens. My favorite LLC event has to be Open Mic Night. Open Mic Night perfectly exemplifies how the LLC provides space and opportunities for all teens to shine. For the past two years, we have run this event and performers with diverse talents from guitarists to poets to comedians have shown up. I really enjoy seeing an event go from an idea on a whiteboard to a decorated room with performers excited to share their talents. As a group, we have the opportunity to collaborate to bring our ideas to life, and I am looking forward to what we are going to do next!

Literary Cafe presents: Writing YA Novels

Cary Library's next Literary Cafe will spotlight three Boston-area YA authors—Autumn Allen, TM Blanchet & Desmond Hall. We'll explore the different ways each writer interprets and embraces YA storytelling to craft meaningful and moving stories that inspire readers of all ages. The Young Adult genre —which includes fantasy, realistic and historical fiction, thrillers, and much more—is only growing in reach and relevance, and our panelists will address what drew them to writing YA and how their writing careers have developed. Hosted by Cary Library Foundation Board Member Kimberly Hensle Lowrance.
