What a wild last few weeks! As if the holiday season doesn't bring enough hustle and bustle, this year we were able to experience all of it with a heaping side of earthquake! I hope everyone was able to make it through unharmed and with a minimal amount of damage. We were lucky enough to get by with just a few fallen photos, and my daughter didn't even wake up, she woke up the next morning and asked me why the power went out! That next day I swung by two different listings that I have in Eureka to make sure neither of them sustained any damage, and luckily enough for my clients and I, there was no noticeable damage. One of the most common signs of damage is cracked drywall (or separation of drywall panels where the seams become visible), loose/broken plumbing or gas lines. Other potential damage can occur in rigid materials like brick or tile, along with more major issues such as a house slipping off of its post and pier foundation. Unfortunately some homes in Rio Dell and Ferndale did experience some of these issues, there were several chimneys that broke away from the house and were completely destroyed, as well as a handful of older homes whose foundations failed them. If you are afraid that your home sustained some damage but aren't quite sure, please feel free to let me know and I can always swing by for a visual inspection and call in a contractor if need be! |
