19 January 2023 — A New Year, and a New Way to Get NMHS News

We’re moving A Cause in Motion from our quarterly magazine to your in-box! While you’ll still get news of NMHS through the magazine and website, it made sense to create an email newsletter with the flexibility to provide you with the latest updates, as well as the room to share expanded information about NMHS events and programs. We promise to keep them short!

The very first thing we’d like to share is the dates of three upcoming NMHS events in 2023. Over the coming months, we will be sharing more in-depth profiles of event speakers, awardees, and organizations, as well as news of what we’re up to.

Mark Your Calendar:

28 January NMHS Zoom Seminar Series

Join us for our first seminar of the year featuring Professor Angus Kress Gillespie and his new book, Port Newark and the Origins of Container Shipping. Details and registration can be found on our website here.

14–16 April NMHS Annual Meeting

The Mariner’s Museum and Park, Newport News, VA

Our team is working right now to put together a great program of engrossing speakers and excursions, all anchored by a meeting to bring our membership up to date on all things NMHS.

9 May National Maritime Awards Dinner

Join us at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, as we honor USS Constitution Museum, Congressman Joseph D. Courtney, and the Oyster Recovery Partnership. Gary Jobson will be serving as master of ceremonies, and acclaimed artist Patrick O’Brien will be hosting our NMHS Invitational Art Gallery. Details and registration can be found on our website here.

Look for upcoming installments of A Cause in Motion for more information about our awardees and speakers, about venues and destinations, as well as other NMHS News.
