ԱՊՐԻԼ 24-Ի ՍՈՒՐԲ ՊԱՏԱՐԱԳԸ ՀՐԱՒԷՐ ԲԻՒՐԱՒՈՐ ՍՈՒՐԲ ՆԱՀԱՏԱԿՆԵՐՈՒ ՀԵՏ ՀԱՂՈՐԴՈՒԹԵԱՆ, ԿԵՆՍՈՒՆԱԿՈՒԹԵԱՆ ԵՒ ՅԱՐՈՒԹԵԱՆ

ՀԱՅՈՑ ՑԵՂԱՍՊԱՆՈՒԹՅԱՆ ՍՈՒՐԲ ՆԱՀԱՏԱԿՆԵՐԻ ՀԻՇԱՏԱԿԻ ՕՐՎԱ ԱՌԻԹՈՎ

Սիրելի ժողովուրդ հայոց ի հայրենիս և ի սփյուռս,

Վերստին աղոթքով և խոնարհումով հիշատակում ենք Հայոց Ցեղասպանության մեր սուրբ նահատակներին, ովքեր ամուր պահելով իրենց հավատքը, սերն ու նվիրումը առ ազգն ու հայրենին՝ մարտիրոսության պսակն ընդունեցին։

Հայոց Ցեղասպանության սուրբ նահատակների հիշատակը նշում ենք մի շրջանում, երբ մեր ժողովուրդը գտնվում է գոյաբանական նոր սպառնալիքների և անվտանգային լրջագույն հիմնախնդիրների հանդիման: Հայրենի Արցախում իրականացված ցեղասպանական գործողություններից և Արցախի հայաթափումից հետո ներկայիս մտահոգիչ ծանր իրավիճակ է Հայաստանի սահմանային տարածքներում։

Սուրբ Նահատակների լույս հիշատակի առջև մեր նվիրական պարտքն է՝ պաշտպանել ամբողջականությունը մեր հայրենի երկրի, նախանձախնդիր լինել հայոց անկախ պետականության զորացմանը և որպես սրբազան մասունք պահպանել մեր նախնյաց ավանդներն ու ժառանգությունը։

Մեր ժողովուրդը հզոր է իր հերոսական անցյալով, չարի ու չարիքի դեմ պայքարի վճռականությամբ և նույն ոգով պիտի հեռացնի իր կյանքից ազգային շահերին հակառակ կործանարար դրսևորումները, առկա բարդ իրադրությունից ջանքերի մեկտեղումով ելքի ուղիներ գտնի և կերտի իր հաղթական ապագան։

Սիրելի բարեպաշտ ժողովուրդ, այս նվիրական օրը միասիրտ աղոթքով հայցենք մեր սուրբ նահատակների բարեխոսությունը, որ հարուցյալ Քրիստոսի շնորհների և օրհնության ներքո խաղաղ, անվտանգ ու բարօր լինեն մեր հայրենիքն ու ազգը, և մենք հավատով ու հույսով հաստատենք մեր ընթացքը ապահովության ու առաջընթացի շավիղներում:

Թող Տիրոջ սերն ու խնամքը հովանի լինեն մեր hայրենիքին ու համայն մեր ժողովրդին այսօր և միշտ. ամեն։

ԱՊՐԻԼ 24-Ը՝ ՅՈՅՍԸ ՅԱՐՈՒԹԵԱՆ

«Երանելի է այր, որ համբերիցէ փորձանաց. զի եթէ ընտիր ևս գտանիցէ, առցէ զպսակն կենաց՝ զոր խոստացաւ սիրելեաց իւրոց Տէր»

(Յակ. 1:12)

«Երանելի է այն մարդը՝ որ կը համբերէ փորձութեանց, որովհետև եթէ փորձութեան մէջ հաստատ ըլլայ՝ պիտի ընդունի կեանքի պսակը, զոր Տէրը խոստացաւ զինք սիրողներուն»:

Սրբոց Նահատակաց Յիշատակի տօնակատարութեան ս. պատարագը կը մատուցուի մեր ս. եկեղեցւոյ խորաններուն վրայ: Օրուան խորհուրդը բոլորս կը հրաւիրէ խոնարհութեամբ ոգեկոչելու և յարգելու յիշատակը մեր սուրբ նահատակներուն իւրօրինակ տօնակատարութեամբ: Արդարև, ինչքա՜ն ալ այսօր Սրբոց Նահատակաց յիշատակի տօնակատարութիւնն է, այնուամենայնիւ ճիշդ է նաև այն սահմանումը, որ 24 Ապրիլը սգատօն է: Եւ ինչքան որ մեր սուրբ եկեղեցւոյ կեանքին մէջ այս օրը սգատօն է, այնուամենայնիւ Յարութեա՛ն տօնն է, կեանքի տօնն է: Ինչպէս մեր անհատական կեանքի մէջ Մահն ու Կեանքը իրար կը բախուին շատ յաճախ որպէս հաւէրժ օրինաչափութիւն, այնպէս ալ մեր ազգի կեանքին մէջ 24 Ապրիլը՝ մեր Սուրբ Նահատակաց տօնախմբութիւնը իր մէջ կը կրէ վիշտի և կեանքի բախումը: Արդարօրէն, ամբողջ ազգը չի կրնար իր մէջ խեղդել սուգն ու վիշտը, որուն հետքը անտարակոյսօրէն պիտի զգանք մշտապէս, այնուամենայնիւ Սրբոց Նահատակաց տօնախմբութիւնը մեզի կը հաղորդէ կեանք ու յարութիւն: Մեր մէկուկէս միլիոն սրբադասուած Նահատակները պատմութեան մէջ արձանագրուած են որպէս վաւերականութիւն: Նոյնքան, սակայն, Սրբոց Նահատակաց տօնակատարութիւնը մեզի կը հաղորդէ պատգամը՝ վճռակամ կեանքով փոխանցելու Յարութեան խորհուրդը:

Տասնամեակներով մեր ազգը խոնարհեցաւ Սրբոց Նահատակաց յիշատակի առջև: Այսօր պահն է, որպէս Քրիստոնեայ հաւատացեալներ ու ժողովուրդ, որ վիշտ ու տառապանքի կշեռքի զոյգ նժարներուն առաւելաբար յարութեան խորհուրդին ծանրութիւնը զգանք և կեանքին նայինք փորձութեանց համբերելու ու յաղթելու հաւատքի վճռական գիտակցութեամբ:

Պատմութիւնը ինքզինք կը կրկնէ և ի մասնաւոր այս նոր ժամանակներուն: Ընտրութեան պահին ենք կանգնած կրկին: Մարդկայնօրէն կը տառապինք ի տես Արցախեան նոր իրականութեան առջև: Սակայն, բարոյական իրաւունքը չունինք տկարանալու, այլև համբերութեամբ որոնելու ուղին՝ վերածնուելու ու վերակերտելու մեր գոյութենականութիւնը: Ներկայ իրականութիւնը կը պարտաւորեցնէ մեզ ամրանալու մեր Քրիստոնէական հաւատքին մէջ, միաւորուելու որպէս զաւակները նոյն ազգին՝ լեցուած ու ներշնչուած յարութեան խորհուրդով: Բաւական է ներշնչուիլ՝ մեր հայեացքն ուղղելով դէպի այն սուրբ Մայրերու հերոսական կերպարներուն, որոնք իրենց անարատ արեամբ սնուցին իրենց նորածինները։ Նոյն ոգին ու տեսլականը կը տեսնենք նաեւ նո՛ր օրերու որդեկորույս Մայրերու կեանքին մէջ, որոնք իրենց յառաջացեալ տարիքին տառապանքը խեղդեցին իրենց մէջ և վերստին մայրացան: Սուրբ ու Հերոս Մայրերուն կը պարտինք մերօրեայ կեանքը: Հոգևոր ու բարոյական բարձր գիտակցութեամբ հարուստ Մայրերը Տէր Զօրի անապատներուն մէջ, թէ Արցախէն Հայաստան ճանապարհին մերժեցին տկարութիւնը և մեզի հաղորդեցին ապրուած հաւատքին ներշնչումը: Ահաւասիկ, Սուրբ ու Հերոս Մայրերուն հաւատքին եռանդը կը պարտաւորեցնէ, որ ազգը իր մէջ նորոգէ սիրոյ ապրուած խորհուրդը ի մասնաւորի փորձութեանց պահին: Փորձութեանց օվկիանոսին մէջ ենք և վերածնուելու ու հայրենակերտուելու միակ ճանապարհը՝ սրբութեան խորհուրդն է, որուն արմատը Աստուծոյ սէրն է:

Հետևաբար, 24 Ապրիլը, Սրբոց Նահատակաց տօնը՝ կեանքի տօնն է: Մեր կեանքի գերագոյն նպատակն է ապրիլ ի սէր Մայր Հայրենիքի ու Ս. Էջմիածնի, մշտապէս խոնարհած մեր սրբազան աւանդութեանց առաջ: Պարտ ենք ժամանակը ծառայեցնել անոր, որպէսզի մեր առջև դրուած հրամայականները միջոց դարձնենք ու ապրինք հաւատքի գիտակցութեամբ, ապրինք հարուստ կեանքի այնպիսի ընթացք մը, որ այն դառնայ անկորնչելի ժառանգը գալիք սերունդներուն համար:

Օրեր առաջ ներկայ գտնուեցանք Մանուկեան-Տէմիրճեան ամենօրեայ վարժարանի կողմէ պատրաստուած «Քեզ համար Հայաստան» խորագիրը կրող հրաշալի հանդիսութեան, որու ամբողջ ընթացքին ունեցանք հոգևոր վերանորոգութեան ապրումներ ու մանաւանդ ներքին այն համոզումը, որ նորահաս երիտասարդները իրենց հոգևոր արեան մէջ կ’ապրին տեսիլքը հայրենական, կարօտը հայրենի հողին, և անկասկած հպարտ այն զգացողութեամբ, որ իւրաքանչիւրը պիտի իմաստաւորի իր կեանքը՝ ընտանիքը դարձնելով գերագոյն սրբութիւնը, որպէս դրսևորումը իրենց Քրիստոնէական հաւատքին՝ Հայց. եկեղեցւոյ ժայռին վրայ հաստատուած:

Ուրեմն Սրբոց Նահատակաց տօնակատարութեան ներշնչող պատգամը մեզի կը տրուի երիտասարդ սերունդի կողմէ, իրենց խօսքով ու բարի արարքներով: Սրբոց Նահատակաց տօնակատարութիւնը կ’իմաստաւորուի, երբ մեր կեանքը կը նուիրաբերենք ի սէր նորահաս սերունդին ի գին ամէն զոհողութեան: Նորահաս սերունդը՝ Աստուծոյ կողմէ մեզի վստահուած ամենէն թանկագին ընծան է: Եթէ պահ մը տկարանանք մեր հաւատքին մէջ, ապա մեր հոգու աչքերը թող նային մեր երիտասարդներուն, ու թող մեր սիրտը լսէ ձայնը՝ անոնց սրտի զարկերուն: Եթէ մեր կեանքը փորձութեանց մէջ է, ապա մեր երիտասարդներուն մէջ փնտրենք և գտնենք յոյսը Յարութեան, եւ այդ, յիրաւի, անկորնչելի խորհուրդն է Ապրիլ 24-ի։

ARMENIAN GENOCIDE COMMEMORATION

Title: "Red Sunday: Remembering the Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide".

English Summary of Father Haroutioun Tachejian's sermon delivered on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at St. James.

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today, as we gather on this sacred Red Sunday, our hearts are heavy with remembrance. We stand at the precipice of the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, a dark chapter in the Armenian history that forever marked our people with the stain of suffering and loss. This day, Red Sunday, holds a profound significance for us as Armenians, for it is a day when we remember the blood of our martyrs, those who were ruthlessly massacred by the Ottoman Turks simply because of their Christian faith and Armenian identity.

In the life of the Armenian Church, Red Sunday is a solemn reminder of the blood shed by Christian martyrs. The color red, a symbol of the blood of the martyrs, speaks volumes of their unwavering faith and unyielding commitment to Christ our Lord. Like the early Christians who faced persecution and death, our ancestors in motherland Armenia stood firm in their belief, refusing to renounce their faith even in the face of unspeakable horrors.

The psalmist's words resonate deeply with us today: "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of the saints." (Psalms 116:15). Our martyrs, numbering 1.5 million, are not forgotten. Their sacrifice, their blood, has become a testament to the resilience of the Armenian spirit and the strength of our Christian faith.

As we reflect on the significance of Red Sunday, we are reminded that martyrdom is not just a historical event but a living reality for many Christians around the world. Even today, there are those who face persecution and death because of their faith. The Apostle Paul's words echo in our ears: "In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood." (Hebrews 12:4). Though we may not face the same trials as our ancestors, we are called to stand firm in our faith, to resist sin, and to bear witness to the truth of Christ.

The Armenian Genocide stands as a stark reminder of the consequences of hatred, bigotry, and intolerance. The Ottoman Turks sought to erase our identity, our faith, from the pages of history. Yet, they could not extinguish the flame of the Armenian spirit. Today, we stand as a testament to the resilience of our people, the strength of our faith, and the power of remembrance.

In our remembrance of the martyrs, we are called to honor their memory not just with words, but with actions. We are called to stand up against injustice, to speak out against hatred, and to work tirelessly for a world where such atrocities can never happen again. As followers of Christ, we are called to be beacons of hope, love, and reconciliation in a world often shrouded in darkness.

Let us take this Red Sunday as a time of solemn reflection and renewal. Let us remember the sacrifices of our martyrs, whose blood still cries out for justice. Let us recommit ourselves to living lives worthy of their legacy, lives filled with love, compassion, and faith.

May the memory of our canonized saint martyrs be blessed. Amen.

A Night to Ignite Change: Honoring the Akian Family

The American University of Armenia (AUA) is pleased to announce an upcoming event, A Night to Ignite Change: Honoring the Akian Family. Hosted by AUA supporters Vahe and Ruzan Kuzoyan, the event will benefit the University as it continues to expand, while also recognizing the Akian family’s generous contributions to AUA over many decades, highlighting the transformative power of change and the family’s impact on higher education in Armenia.

Taking place on Saturday, May 18, 2024, the function will be held at the beautiful Kuzoyan residence, which will serve as a fitting backdrop for a night of elegance, impact, and celebration. The event will feature two alumni emcees, Anna Bakunts (MBA ’11) and Hayk Mamajanyan (LLM ’12), and several esteemed guest speakers, each recognized as AUA Changemakers for their remarkable contributions to their respective fields: Sharon Anoush Chekijian, M.D., MPH, Yale University School of Medicine; Vahan Janjigian, Ph.D., chief investment officer, Greenwich Wealth Management, LLC; Christine Soussa, global client director, Equinix; and Lilit Yenokyan, director of engineering, Roku. The evening’s musical performances will include notable Armenian artists Vardan Ovsepian and Christine Pepelyan.

ՍՈՒՐԲ ԳՐԱՅԻՆ ԸՆԹԵՐՑՈՒՄՆԵՐ

ԿԻՐԱԿԻ , ԱՊՐԻԼ 28, 2024

ԱՒԵՏԱՐԱՆ ԸՍՏ ՅՈՎՀԱՆՆՈՒ 7:14-23

Տաղաւարահարաց տօնակատարութեան մօտաւորապէս կէսին, Յիսուս տաճար ելաւ եւ սկսաւուսուցանել: Հրեաներ կը զարմանային եւ կ’ըսէին.

– Ի՞նչպէս այս մարդը Սուրբ գիրքերը գիտէ, երբ բնաւ չէ ուսած զանոնք:

Յիսուս պատասխանեց անոնց.

– Ինչ որ ձեզի կ’ուսուցանեմ՝ իմ վարդապետութիւնս չէ, այլ անորը՝ որ զիս ղրկեց: Ով որ կ’ուզէԱստուծոյ կամքը կատարել, պիտի հասկնայ՝ թէ Աստուծմէ՞ է այս վարդապետութիւնը, թէ ես իմհեղինակութեամբս կը խօսիմ: Ան որ իր հեղինակութեամբ կը խօսի՝ իր անձին համար փառք կըփնտռէ, իսկ ան որ զինք ղրկողին փառքը կը փնտռէ, ճշմարիտ է եւ խաբէութիւն չկայ անոր մէջ:Մովսէս ձեզի Օրէնքը չտուա՞ւ. սակայն ձեզմէ ո՛չ ոք կը հնազանդի Օրէնքին: Ինչո՞ւ կ’ուզէք զիսսպաննել:

Ժողովուրդը պատասխանեց.

– Դիւահա՞ր ես, ի՞նչ ես. ո՞վ կ’ուզէ քեզ սպաննել:

Յիսուս պատասխանեց.

– Հրաշք մը գործեցի եւ բոլորդ վրդովեր էք: Մովսէս հրահանգեց թլփատել ձեր զաւակները –թէեւՄովսէս չէր սկսողը, այլ ձեր նախահայրերը– եւ դուք ձեր զաւակները կը թլփատէք Շաբաթ օրով: Եթէմէկը կը թլփատէք Շաբաթ օրով, որպէսզի չբեկանուի Մովսէսի Օրէնքը, ինչո՞ւ զայրացած էք ինծի դէմ,որովհետեւ մէկը ամբողջութեամբ բժշկեցի Շաբաթ օրով:

ԱՌԱՔԵԱԼՆԵՐՈՒ ԳՈՐԾԵՐԸ 17:1-15

Ամփիպոլիս եւ Ապոլոնիա քաղաքները շրջելէ ետք, Պօղոս եւ Շիղա Թեսաղոնիկէ եկան, ուրՀրեաներու ժողովարան մը կար: Պօղոս ըստ իր սովորութեան ժողովարան գնաց եւ երեք Շաբաթօրեր անոնց խօսեցաւ: Կը բանար ու կը բացատրէր Սուրբ գիրքերը, անոնցմով կ’ապացուցանէր, թէի՛նչպէս Քրիստոս պիտի չարչարուէր ու մեռելներէն յարութիւն առնէր, եւ կ’ըսէր.

– Այն Յիսուսը, որ ես ձեզի կը քարոզեմ, ա՛ն է Քրիստոսը՝ խոստացուած Փրկիչը:

Թեսաղոնիկեցի Հրեաներէն ոման հաւատացին եւ Պօղոսի ու Շիղայի յարեցան: Նոյնպէս անոնցյարեցան շատ մը աստուածապաշտ Յոյներ եւ նկատառելի թիւով երեւելի կիներ:

Հրեայ ղեկավարները նախանձեցան եւ փողոցներէն քանի մը դատարկապորտ անօրէններհաւաքելով՝ ամբոխ կազմեցին, ամբողջ քաղաքը խռովեցին եւ Յասոնի տան վրայ խուժեցին՝Պօղոսն ու Շիղան բռնելու եւ ժողովուրդին առջեւ հանելու համար: Բայց երբ զանոնք չգտան, Յասոննու քանի մը ուրիշ հաւատացեալներ քաշեցին տարին քաղաքի իշխաններուն առջեւ, պոռալով.

– Այս մարդիկը, որոնք ամբողջ աշխարհը իրար անցուցին, հիմա մեր քաղաքը եկեր են, եւ Յասոն իրտունը առեր է զիրենք: Ասոնք բոլորը կայսրին հրահանգներուն հակառակ կը գործեն, որովհետեւուրի՛շ թագաւոր մը կը ճանչնան՝ Յիսուս անունով:

Այս խօսքերով անոնք խռովեցուցին ամբոխը եւ քաղաքի իշխանները: Սակայն իշխանները Յասոնէնեւ միւս քրիստոնեաներէն երաշխաւորութիւն առնելով՝ ազատ արձակեցին զանոնք:

Հազիւ գիշերը վրայ հասած՝ քրիստոնեաներ Բերիա ղրկեցին Պօղոսն ու Շիղան, որոնք երբ հոնհասան՝ Հրեաներու ժողովարանը գացին: Բերիայի Հրեաները աւելի ազատամիտ էին քանԹեսաղոնիկեցիները, ուստի մեծ յօժարութեամբ ընդունեցին Աստուծոյ խօսքը եւ ամէն օր Սուրբգիրքերը կը քննէին, տեսնելու համար թէ ճշմարի՞տ են Պօղոսի քարոզածները: Անոնցմէ շատերհաւատացին: Նմանապէս հաւատացին բազմաթիւ ազնուական Յոյն կիներ եւ այրեր: Բայց երբԹեսաղոնիկէի Հրեաները իմացան թէ Պօղոս Բերիայի մէջ եւս Աստուծոյ խօսքը քարոզեց, հոն ալեկան՝ ժողովուրդը գրգռելու եւ խռովութիւն ստեղծելու համար: Ուստի հաւատացեալներըանմիջապէս Պօղոսը մինչեւ ծովեզերք ղրկեցին, իսկ Շիղա եւ Տիմոթէոս հոն մնացին: Պօղոսիընկերացողները զինք մինչեւ Աթէնք հասցուցին եւ ապա Բերիա դարձան, Շիղայի եւ Տիմոթէոսիհամար Պօղոսէն պատուէր առնելով՝ որ շուտով գան իր մօտ:

John 7:14-23 

About the middle of the festival Jesus went up into the temple and began to teach. The Jews were astonished at it, saying, “How does this man have such learning, when he has never been taught?” Then Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine but his who sent me. Anyone who resolves to do the will of God will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own. Those who speak on their own seek their own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and there is nothing false in him.   

“Did not Moses give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why are you looking for an opportunity to kill me?” The crowd answered, “You have a demon! Who is trying to kill you?” Jesus answered them, “I performed one work, and all of you are astonished. Moses gave you circumcision (it is, of course, not from Moses, but from the patriarchs), and you circumcise a man on the sabbath. If a man receives circumcision on the sabbath in order that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because I healed a man’s whole body on the sabbath?  

Acts 17:1-15 

After Paul and Silas had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three sabbath days argued with them from the scriptures, explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and to rise from the dead, and saying, “This is the Messiah, Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you.” Some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women. But the Jews became jealous, and with the help of some ruffians in the marketplaces they formed a mob and set the city in an uproar. While they were searching for Paul and Silas to bring them out to the assembly, they attacked Jason’s house. When they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some believers before the city authorities, shouting, “These people who have been turning the world upside down have come here also, and Jason has entertained them as guests. They are all acting contrary to the decrees of the emperor, saying that there is another king named Jesus.” The people and the city officials were disturbed when they heard this, and after they had taken bail from Jason and the others, they let them go.   

That very night the believers sent Paul and Silas off to Beroea; and when they arrived, they went to the Jewish synagogue. These Jews were more receptive than those in Thessalonica, for they welcomed the message very eagerly and examined the scriptures every day to see whether these things were so. Many of them therefore believed, including not a few Greek women and men of high standing. But when the Jews of Thessalonica learned that the word of God had been proclaimed by Paul in Beroea as well, they came there too, to stir up and incite the crowds. Then the believers immediately sent Paul away to the coast, but Silas and Timothy remained behind. Those who conducted Paul brought him as far as Athens; and after receiving instructions to have Silas and Timothy join him as soon as possible, they left him.
