Wilmington, DE – July 26, 2024 — YWCA Delaware is hosting its second annual Health Fair thanks to community sponsors, including AmeriHealth Caritas, on Friday, August 23, 2024, at its Home-Life Management Center, 709 N Madison St, Wilmington, Delaware, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. (rain date, Friday, August 30, 2024.) This year’s theme, Fall into Wellness, While Building Healthy Habits, invites all New Castle County residents to adopt healthy routines as vacations end, schools re-open, and summer transitions to autumn.

The YWCA Delaware Community Health Fair will feature various activities and essential health services, education, and resources for all ages, including preventive services, health education, giveaways, and more. Over 45 service providers and vendors will be in attendance, including:

• Free health resources and screenings from the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center– ChristianaCare, AmeriHealth Caritas Bus, Division of Public Health – Delaware Health and Social Services – Screening for Life, and Pearly White Children’s Dentistry 

• Flu shots administered by New Castle County Mobile Unit

• Nutrition and cooking resources from the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension – Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP)

• Mental health resources from Merakey, Henrietta Johnson Medical Center, and The Life Health Center

• Preventive care education from Nemours, The Black Girl Health Collective, Project Totem – Aquila of Delaware, Quality Insights, Kremer Eye Center, Palmer Chiropractic Life Center, and ATI Physical Therapy 

• Addiction recovery resources from Essentials Recovery, AtTAck Addiction, and the Delaware Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DHSS/DSAMH) 

“We’re thrilled to be hosting this health fair at our Home-Life Management Center, a community hub offering services from housing and community health coordination to workforce readiness programs and domestic violence and sexual assault counseling to help give our clients and surrounding community members the tools and knowledge to improve their overall well-being,” said Lisa Forever, YWCA Delaware’s Chief Housing Officer.

YWCA Delaware’s Community Health Fair is empowered by its Community Health program, which helps individuals access basic needs, connect to community resources, enroll in educational training, and obtain a range of prevention services.

“As a Community Health Worker, we often work in underserved communities, where individuals have limited or no access to community resources, which causes an array of health disparities. Some health disparities include poor mental health, poverty, food insecurities, the burden of diseases, barriers to care, and mortality. Our goal is to provide our NCC members with health services and education at a reduced or no cost, motivation for behavior change, and overall community resiliency,” said Shanique Scott, YWCA Delaware’s Community Health Coordinator.

Admission is FREE for individuals of all ages.
