Gospel: Matthew 1:18-25

Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,” which means, “God is with us.” When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife, but had no marital relations with her until she had borne a son; and he named him Jesus.

Christmas Eve Service

We are thrilled to have the former music director at Grace Episcopal Church, Craig Bond accompany us on Christmas Eve. Craig and Father Mac worked together at Grace for over 30 years. It's a special treat that he has agreed to attend St. Lukes's on this special Christmas Eve service. Welcome him on Saturday and express your appreciation for lending his talent with our congregation.

Collect from Sunday, Dec 11

Loving Father,

With every thought, prayer, and worship of our Lord, we aspire in drawing ever-closer to Thee, the indwelling of Thy Holy Spirit. As children, extensions of Thy vine, nourish us with a greater understanding and appreciation of love’s qualities. Help guide us in the direction of Thy will, allowing the essence harnessed from this divine knowledge to shine through us and into the hearts of the suffering, lost, and those in despair.  For we have come to appreciate in this walk of giving, the immeasurable feeling of joy and the opportunity in expressing the love of gratitude and cherish for our presence in this world and life eternal, as we follow in the path laid forth by Jesus Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with Thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen.

As you may know, York and Elizabeth Wong have been writing weekly Collects for St. Luke’s Episcopal Church since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020. We're reprinting them because they are worth re-reading.

St. Luke's Episcopal Church History

OUR HISTORY

Earlier this year, St. Luke's Episcopal Church celebrated the 75th anniversary of the building of the church. But the congregation is much older than that, having first gathered in June 1917 for an Episcopal service in Calistoga.
