Mesoamerica Region
Trinidad and Tobago were first colonized by the Spanish but came under British control in the late 19th century. Noted for the sugar industry, and the slave labor required to sustain it, the islands were crippled economically by the emancipation of slaves in 1834. However, large numbers of Indian contract laborers brought in between 1845 and 1917 boosted sugar production and a thriving cocoa industry. This also introduced Hinduism to the islands, the second major religion practiced there. Oil was discovered in Trinidad around 1910, which energized a booming economy through export. The Church of the Nazarene established its first work here in 1926. Trinidad and Tobago attained independence in 1962. One of the most prosperous countries in the Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago are now rapidly expanding its tourism industry and related services. One third of the population is under the age of 25 years, which prompts many of the ministries there, including children’s camps highlighted in today’s story.

NYI - Young Adult Ministry
After high school, people take on many different paths as they go through life and into their careers, but they often come across some of the same challenges. The YAM ministry is being formed to unite our “young” adults (high school graduates to early 30’s) in an environment where there can be great discussion regarding the many facets of life. The primary focus of the group is to grow together, through fellowship, in the Word of God.

Crossbridge
Hi, I am Nathan Goodchild and I am so excited to be Crossbridge’s new multisite youth director! I grew up in the Illinois Valley and have been attending Crossbridge for 10 years. I have served in many different areas of ministry. Despite this, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine when I completed my mechanical engineering degree 6 years ago that this was where my career would take me. God has blessed my wife, Delaney and I with a beautiful baby girl, Sienna, who already has us wrapped around her finger! We are so excited to see what God has in store for us in this new season of life here at Crossbridge!

Southside Community Center
Southside Community Center (SCC) is all set for our seventh summer of Youth Leadership and Enrichment Programming. Last year, we were blessed with a grant from the Ralla Klepak Foundation to add performing arts to our leadership programming, fulfilling the vision of bringing our therapeutic relationships and environment together with the healing power of artistic expression through the performing arts. We need your help to sustain these programs and help us move closer to our dream of being a year-round program.
The staff is trained, and we are looking forward to another incredible leadership development in summer 2024! Join our partners and be a part of a child's journey towards a safe place to dream, heal, and create a beautiful future. Your generous contribution can help change a child's life trajectory. By sponsoring a future leader for $400 to participate in our 8-week summer session, you can significantly transform our community, one relationship at a time. You will be invited to the end-of-the-season performance created by our kids. This year's theme is "Home Grown".
