One of the tasks of the rector of the parish is to compile the Voting Members list for the annual meeting. To be a voting member, one must be sixteen years of age, their name recorded in the parish register, have been faithful in corporate worship, and have contributed to the parish financially over the course of the last thirteen months. So, one of the keys to this process is a list of all who have contributed to the parish. Taking out those who have died or contributed to memorials, there are 105 entries. Couples are recorded together, so it roughly equals family units. My shock was comparing that number to the 37 pledges we have received.
Ascension is heavily endowed and we benefit greatly from our predecessors generosity and foresight. That does not relieve us of our responsibility to support the parish. Now, I know there are those who contribute regularly and generously; we can identify them and their names are on that list.
Every year, we set about making a budget for the coming year. While we benefit from funds left for the care and feeding of Ascension, we must also be faithful stewards of the donor’s wishes and conserve those funds for future generations. A pledge of support would ease our planning process. Your pledge is an indication of how you are willing to support Ascension. It is an indication of your commitment to the life, mission, and ministry of Ascension.

Annual Meeting Notice
The Rector, Wardens, and Vestry of The Church of the Ascension have called for the Annual Meeting of the Parish to be held on 29 January 2023. There will be one service at 10:00 a.m. on this day and the meeting will follow in Saint Michael Hall. This year, the meeting will be in-person.
This meeting is for the express purpose of receiving reports concerning the financial state and the activities of the parish, and to elect a warden and vestry members. A light lunch will be provided, so registering your intention to attend will help to ensure that there will be a lunch for you! Please use the sign-up sheets in the narthex and Wheeler Hall to let us know.
The 2022 Annual Report, which includes the slate for election of a Jr. Warden and three Vestry members, will be sent via a special edition of TWAA on Friday, January 20, following the Thursday evening meeting of the Vestry.

From the Curate
Thank you to all of the young adults who gathered with me last Sunday to discuss Anglican and Episcopal identity! As always, it was a joy to learn so much from you. I look forward to our next gathering, which is currently scheduled for February 12, again shortly following the Mass at 11 a.m. More details to come.
In the meantime, I’m also pleased to announce that in February, I will be bringing back We Should Talk, the online conversation program I led when I first became Ascension’s Curate. There will be changes, however. Rather than a weekly conversation before Evening Prayer, we will gather monthly and after Evening Prayer. Please stay tuned for the specific times to be announced here in the newsletter, on the website, and in our weekly bulletins.
I’m currently “booking” dates through June, so if there is a timely topic you’d like to present on, please be in touch. And don’t be surprised if you hear from me about leading a conversation! (I’m really hoping to find someone to talk about resurrection images of Christ in fine art for after Easter, for example!)
Finally, please also stay tuned for more information on a Lenten discussion group on the idea of Beauty. Again, more details to come!

Do you have a need for special prayer in your life? Whether your prayer needs are because you have an upcoming surgery, an ill family member, or you’re just feeling particularly lonely lately, Fr. Heard and Mtr. Murphy-Gill would like to know.
We’ve created a way for letting us know about your requests for prayers in a way we hope makes it easy for you to reach out, though you can always call the church or reach out to one of the priests personally.
Share your prayer requests here.
