New crosswalk at Richmond Street School

Students gave their official "stomp" of approval on their walk to school Tuesday morning.

“We are excited for our students to be able to access a new crosswalk to get to Richmond each day. This will provide another route for our students to get to Richmond safely and will hopefully help to alleviate some of the pedestrian traffic at Richmond and Collier Road, which is an extremely busy intersection... thank you to City of Thorold for helping to keep our Raptors safe!” - Principal Mark Leduc

Have a safe Halloween weekend

Halloween cookies

City of Thorold is reminding residents to be safe this upcoming Halloween weekend

City of Thorold by-law officers will be working in shifts over the weekend to provide extra support to our #ThoroldON community to help keep everyone safe from the ghouls and goblins this weekend.

Some Halloween safety tips:

  • Cross the street crosswalks and use traffic signals
  • Put electronic devices down and keep heads up when walking or crossing the street
  • When operating a vehicle, be alert during prime trick-or-treat time: 5:30 - 9:30 pm
  • Celebrate safely and responsibly

Brock University's Off-Campus and Neighbourhood Relations team will also be going door to door today in local neighbourhoods that have large student populations to promote safe and responsible celebrations. Printed materials will be provided that encourage appropriate behaviour and educate students on the possible fines that can be incurred if municipal bylaws are violated.

“Many students are new to living on their own and have embraced St. Catharines and Thorold communities as their home. Our role as a university is not only to educate students in the classroom, but also to encourage them to be responsible and community-minded leaders.” - Amber Scholtens, Interim Director, Student Life and Success

We will also be sharing Halloween safety messaging on our social media accounts over the weekend. See other ways that Brock is preparing its students for a safe and responsible weekend of Halloween celebrations.
