Extreme Heat Action Plan Launch

Miami-Dade County and The Miami Foundation are proud to announce the official launch of the Extreme Heat Action Plan. Developed with extensive input from the 15-member Climate and Heat Health Task Force and more than 300 community stakeholders, this plan will serve as an addendum to the Resilient305 Strategy and its implementation will be led by Miami-Dade Chief Heat Officer Jane Gilbert and Miami-Dade Office of Resilience. Location: Amelia Earhart Park

Looking for Holiday Activities to do at Home?

  • National Energy Education Development (NEED) provides free energy-themed seasonal guides and activities. Visit their Website
  • Education.com provides a learning library with various hands-on activities for students to do at home.
  • Visit PBS Kids for Parents and make DIY holiday crafts and gifts!

Opportunities for Students

  • US EPA Presidential Awards for Environmental Educators and Youth Applications are now open for two EE-focused awards from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): the President’s Environmental Youth Award (PEYA) that celebrates student leadership in service projects to protect the environment and keep our global community healthy, and Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators (PIAEE). Applications are due no later than January 11, 2023. Winners will be invited to an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. Visit EPA’s website for more information about each award and how to apply.
  • Deloitte One Young World Scholarship 2023 Five young leaders who have demonstrated commitment to tackling the challenges of climate change will be chosen to attend the One Young World Summit in Belfast, United Kingdom from October 2-5, 2023. Leaders ages 18-30 are encouraged to apply. Applications are due January 31, 2023.
  • Population Education’s World of 8 Billion Video Contest Middle and high school students are encouraged to submit their videos that share a solution to a global population challenge. Videos will be judged on how well they explain impacts and offer solutions to climate change, gender equality issues, and waste issues; first, second, and honorable mention winners will receive monetary awards. Entries are accepted until February 22, 2023.
