Food for Thought is a monthly, members-only e-newsletter from the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST).
PRESIDENTIAL FODDER 🎃
Traditionally, Thanksgiving is a time when we give thanks to nature for the gifts we have received from the earth as we reap the harvest to keep us into the next season. Christmas is also a time of gift-giving and thanks but more on a spiritual level.

Halloween just happens to fall in the middle of Thanksgiving and Christmas and is also a time of giving. It is also a time of transition when the temperature changes and creatures big and small seek the comfort of a warm place to live. Just like the spider on my jacket. It is looking for a warm place to cozy up to pass the winter.

Regrettably, not everybody has a warm place to stay or can meet the nutrition requirements they need to be an active member of society. With the increase in home and food insecurity in Canada, many individuals and families cannot make ends meet. I ask that you take time and give it to those who need it most. You can donate to a local food bank or volunteer your time to help those in need. Every little bit matters and can make a huge difference in someone's life. This holiday season, CIFST will partner with Food Banks Canada for a Season of Giving.

I would like to thank all the participants in the call for proposals for the CIFST Food Cluster. We received 20 projects that are now going to the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) for Peer review and then to the AAFC for final approval. We will let you know as we move through the process.
