Bubas bison dung beetles help Lucindale cattle farmer in more ways than one
It took 11 years before Hamish Macdonald started noticing a serious change at his South Australian farm after investing in dung beetles. The beef farmer, who lives about 36 kilometres south of Lucindale, introduced 10 colonies, which equated to 10,000 dung beetles, to his property in 2007.
Something to contemplate for those of you who also have cattle.

Preparing for drought in the midst of La Nina | |
The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) is working with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) to develop a suite of new drought indicators.
Predicting drought impact is difficult, with challenges in forecasting weather on seasonal timescales and translating these to on-the-ground impacts. As part of the Australian Government’s Drought Early Warning System project, these new indicators respond to this challenge by improving how the severity of drought impacts are monitored, forecasted and measured in the Australian agricultural sector.
