Announcing the Funding Forward 2023 Venue

Toward Freedom: Fostering Rest, Reflection, & Connection for Transgender and Gender Expansive Individuals in Philanthropy

Funders for LGBTQ Issues invites transgender and gender non-conforming professionals in philanthropy to join us on May 25th, 3:30-5 PM EST, for Toward Freedom: Fostering Rest, Reflection, & Connection for Transgender and Gender Expansive Professionals in Philanthropy.

Facilitated by Matice Moore, GUTC Consultant and Director of the Brown Boi Project, participants will leave this session with new connections and creative tools for thinking about authenticity and care in philanthropic spaces by invoking the revolutionary practice of “freedom dreaming.” Due to demand, registration for the event is currently waitlisted.

Notes from the Field: State and Local LGBTQ Movement Leaders Speak on Organizing in Response to Anti-LGBTQ Backlash

Funders for LGBTQ Issues, in co-sponsorship with Grantmakers for Southern Progress (GSP), will host a funder briefing on Tuesday, June 13th, from 3:00 - 4:30 pm EDT, that will ​​offer participants an opportunity to hear about the historical context of the far right’s strategy to weaponize TGNC communities in their work to attack bodily autonomy, hear about current work and wins across the field, and identify strategies for philanthropy to deepen their partnership with LGBTQ movements. Funders for LGBTQ Issues Member Convening

Funders for LGBTQ Issues invites our members to join us on Thursday, June 22nd, 4:00 - 5:30 pm EDT, for a virtual community space with colleagues committed to LGBTQ philanthropy. While we have limited opportunities to gather collectively in person, we strive to create space to gather virtually in the wake of ongoing attacks on transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) communities across the nation. It’s our hope that this virtual community space will offer an opportunity to debrief and share ideas and resources for sustaining long-term movement organizing. We aim to highlight ways Funders for LGBTQ Issues and our member community can support each other’s work and well-being. Register here.

The State of LGBTQ Philanthropy + 2021 Tracking Report Release

Minneapolis Reception at the Grantmakers in Health Conference

Southern Vision Alliance has shared an urgent appeal for funding to support the influx of applications for the Queer Mobilization Fund, a program created to meet the needs of Southern LGBTQ organizing. To meet their goal of supporting 50 grantees for their 2023 grant cycle, Queer Mobilization Fund needs to raise $100,000 by June 5th. Learn more here.

In response to Alabama's decision to ban Pre-K educators from employing nationally recognized standards to promote inclusive and welcoming learning spaces for all children, the Early Childhood Funding Collaborative has issued a statement affirming the need to build classrooms that welcome children of all races and family structures, including LGBTQ communities. Southern Vision Alliance: Queer Mobilization Fund Annual Report

The Southern Vision Alliance, a North Carolina-based grassroots organization and Funders for LGBTQ Issues Out in the South Fund grantee, released its 2022 Annual Report outlining the growth and accomplishments through supporting their Queer Mobilization Fund grantees.

Tennessee and the Anti-Drag Race

The New York Times published an op-ed featuring the insight of Patrick Grzanka, a professor of psychology at the University of Tennessee and chair of the university's interdisciplinary program in women, gender, and sexuality, on Tennessee's extreme anti-drag law.

Philanthropy and HBCUs: Foundation Funding to Historically Black Colleges and Universities

Historically Black colleges have played a central role in developing Black leaders and addressing inequalities in the United States. ABFE and Candid released their latest report on philanthropy and HBCUs.

Washington State Passed a "Shield Law" to Protect Trans People and Abortion Seekers

Washington became the sixth state to pass a "shield law" protecting people from out-of-state bans on gender-affirming care and abortion, prohibiting state authorities from issuing subpoenas based on laws against such care in other states.

TRANSCEND Campaign receives $60,000 in support from Northwest Area Foundation, Saint Paul Foundation, and Cargill Corporation
