Jimmy Carter personified faith in action. He was a good, kind and God loving man. We miss knowing that he will never walk onto another Habitat site.

It was a couple years after his presidency in 1984 that he grew to respect and volunteer for Habitat for Humanity – a newer ministry helping low-income families help themselves by helping them build and buy their own affordable homes.

He and his wife, Rosalynn, became great friends to Habitat for Humanity through the years – they have given their time and talent to Habitat ever since. They loved working with Habitat every year as a part of the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. In their 40 years of service they would eventually help Habitat build homes across the globe.

Jimmy Carter’s commitment to social justice and the basic human right of shelter was strong. He loved the self-help aspect of Habitat. Carter remarked, “Habitat has successfully removed the stigma of charity by substituting it with a sense of partnership.”

Regardless of your politics – we can always agree that Jimmy Carter was one of the greatest humanitarians of our time. He taught us that the greatest way to love our neighbor was to help them.

He once said, “My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can, with whatever I have, to try to make a difference.”

We are planning for a tribute home to be built in memory of he and Rosalynn later this spring. If you’d like to donate please visit: Give Now
