DEAR PARA MEMBERS,

there was a brief article about a meeting that several PARA Board members had with the Port Authority's Executive Director, Patrick Foye, on October 9, 2015.  The meeting was part of a continuing effort by PARA to build a closer relationship with the Port Authority at staff and board levels.

One of the topics discussed at the meeting with Mr. Foye was the idea of connecting with younger staff in the PA, sharing experiences and perspectives from the retiree community.  On December 8, two months later, an employee organization called the Network of
Emerging Talent (NET) provided a forum for younger employees, inlcuding Leadership Fellows (formerly known as Management Trainees) to host a panel of several PARA Board members in the PA's Board Room at 4 WTC. The PARA panelists shared brief career histories, followed by a candid Q-and-A session. There was keen interest to learn how the panelists' careers advanced, hearing about the various positions and departments in which they each worked during their PA careers, and how mentors were found. The average tenure of the audience was approximately two years, and many had previous work experience; most had masters degrees.

The January 11 issue of PA News reports on this multigeneration meeting, and we thought you would enjoy reading it. NET asked that PARA meet with them again at future NET-organized events, and the PARA Board agreed readily. You can find back issues (to 2006) of PA News and subscribe to it if you wish on PARA's Web site -- click here.

Before we sign off, it is dues time for the year, and we ask you to click here for the 2016 dues remittance form if you haven't paid yet.  We also post relevant news articles for PA/PATH retirees on PARA's Web site ( see Current Issues), so please take advantage of this continuing feature.

Thank you all for your support of PARA!

Sincerely,

YOUR PARA BOARD

WHAT IS PARA?

The Port Authority Retirees Association (PARA), a not-for-profit corporation, was formed in 1989 to promote the welfare of retirees of the Port Authority (and PATH). That is accomplished by PARA's acting as spokesperson for Port Authority retirees. We foster and encourage legislation that maintains or improves our circumstances primarily as it affects the pensions of the New York State Retirement System. Our more than 4,200 members are strengthened by PARA's affiliation with the Alliance of Public Retiree Organizations (APRO) representing more than 350,000 members.
