CPE in the Context of the Crisis in the Middle East: Supporting Jewish and Muslim Students (and Our Groups as a Whole)

Thursday, August 1 – 12:00PM – 1:30PM ET

Against the backdrop of the crisis in the Middle East, Islamophobia, antisemitism, and political polarization about the Israel-Hamas War, what do CPE students need from their educators? How can we best support our Jewish and Muslim students, and at the same time help our students meet the needs of Muslim and Jewish care recipients? How can we attend to the educational needs of all our students and their varied connections and responses to the crisis, even when our groups do not include Jewish, Muslim, Israeli or Palestinian students? As educators, how can our theories about conflict and trauma support us right now?

Join us for a Resource Room to explore these themes and share your own learning and insights.

Here to Serve

“Each of you should use whatever gift[s] you have received to serve others…” (1Peter 4:10)

A week after our annual conference concluded, I attended the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship 2024 General Assembly. While giving his annual report and several other times during the week, Executive Coordinator, Dr. Paul Baxley reminded us that CBF exists to serve. The idea of service is not a new concept to me. In my faith tradition, Scripture teaches that we should rather serve others than to be served. There was not a time that he spoke that I did not think of my role in ACPE. I had just completed the sixth month as the Chair of the Board… and it has been a busy 6 months! I am here to serve.

ACPE: The Standard for Spiritual Care & Education

ACPE is the standard for spiritual care and education. Our diverse membership includes Certified CPE Educators, Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapists, Spiritual Care Professionals and Practitioners, Pastoral Counselors, Chaplains, Faith Communities, and Seminaries. Our multi-disciplinary, multi-faith, multi-racial community of professionals provides education, connection, and formation through continuing education, networking, and leadership development.

ACPE is the premier, Department of Education recognized, organization that provides the highest quality CPE programs for spiritual care professionals of any faith and in any setting. We do this through a rigorous accreditation and certification process for centers and educators that provide CPE.

The depth of our training enables students to realize their full potential to strengthen the spiritual health of people in their care as well as themselves.

ACPE members are actively engaged in a wide variety of professional development activities including communities of practice, conferences, spiritual care research, and informal networking. We are more than just an association: we are a movement committed to the transformation of the human suffering. Our opportunities for formation and community enrich our member's work of healing and transforming people and communities in the US and across the globe.
