GLOBE News Brief – January 2025 | |
Dear GLOBE community,
Happy New Year! As we begin 2025, we are excited to start the countdown to GLOBE’s 30-year anniversary on Earth Day! Whether you have been with GLOBE for 30 years or just 1 year, we are sure that you have stories to tell about how you came to join GLOBE, what you've done with GLOBE, and how you or someone you know has influenced their school or community through their involvement with GLOBE. We invite you to share these experiences via video (see instructions) and to add your suggestions for the 30th anniversary celebration.
We have a big year ahead! This month, we have several webinars planned, including one to prepare students for the International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS) and one to share resources for the 30 Years of GLOBE Campaign. We are also beginning the review and update of the Biosphere Teacher’s Guide and associated protocols. We invite GLOBE educators and STEM professionals to a workshop on 17 January to provide feedback on this Teacher's Guide and protocols to help inform the review.
Applications for the 2025–26 GLOBE Student Vlogger program are now open! Please encourage interested students to apply by the 28 February deadline. In February, we will start a Snow View Intensive Observation Period (IOP) for the Northern Hemisphere and have plans to have another snow IOP in 6 months to correspond with the winter season in the Southern Hemisphere.
Be sure to check the GLOBE calendar for additional opportunities in the coming months and don’t forget to save the date for the 2025 GLOBE Annual Meeting, which will be held 14–17 July in the Washington, D.C., area of the United States.
We want to highlight the importance of the GLOBE International STEM Network (GISN) to GLOBE's work and mission. We are pleased to report that the network has already grown by 10% in the past year. Our goal for 2025 is to balance GISN representation across all GLOBE regions, so if you haven’t already, please invite your STEM colleagues to our 2025 GISN kick-off meeting on 16 January.
We are also still looking for IVSS judges. If you or someone you know is interested, please apply by 31 January.
Thank you for all you do to bring GLOBE experiences to participants and to enrich the program. If you have any questions or needs, please contact us by emailing help@nasaglobe.org.
