Get to know your neighbor: Patty Schmitz

We are pleased to start a new section in our newsletter "get to know your neighbor" where we will highlight various folks living and/or working in the CIDNA neighborhood. To kick off this highlight, we are excited to introduce you to Patty Schmitz.

Patty has lived in the CIDNA neighborhood for over ten years with her husband Alex Dietz, two children (now college students), and their rescue dog Scout.

A few of Patty's favorite things about living here are the walk and bike ability of the neighborhood, and watching the sunset from Cedar Lake South Beach whenever she can.

Patty loves to be involved in things that create connections and build community. Just a few of the activities you can find her organizing, or participating in, include:

  • A water stop on the TC Marathon route each year. This year they served over 3,000 cups of water.
  • Hosting a National Night Out celebration for CIDNA residents on Dean Green.
  • Weekly demonstrations following the George Floyd murder.
  • Neighborhood Cleanups and much more!

Patty is also co-chair of CIDNA's Fall Festival, and we are so grateful for all she does to help make this a great event each year.

Right now, Patty and her family are preparing to welcome a Ukranian refugee family into their home and to help to settle them into a new life in Minnesota.

Patty is just one of the many wonderful people who are a part of our community. We look forward to introducing you to more as the year continues!

December Crime Report

In the month of December, there were two auto thefts and two thefts of belongings within parked cars. One of the auto thefts was a Hyundai. As you probably have heard, Hyandai's and Kia's are stolen at a high rate throughout the city. Anyone who owns one of these car types should use a steering wheel lock (club) to make them harder to steal. If someone is a victim of a Hyundai or Kia car theft, they can receive a free steering wheel lock at any of the police precincts.
