Greater Hudson Heritage Network (GHHN) has received a multi-year award of $225,000 from the
New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) for the
Conservation Treatment Grant Program.
The Conservation Treatment Grant Program, a partnership between the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and Greater Hudson Heritage Network (GHHN), has been awarded $225,000 for each of three years. Providing support for professional conservators to aid in stabilizing and preserving art and objects, the funds reach museums and cultural organizations across New York State. The application process will be announced in January 2023.
From Long Island to the Finger Lakes to the Adirondacks, these funds will provide treatment by professional conservators to aid in stabilizing, preserving, and making accessible to the public an array of unique objects in collections of New York State's museums, historical, and cultural organizations of all sizes. Grants will be awarded for prioritized, urgently needed conservation of objects that, once treated, will impact public interpretive programs, exhibitions, and education.
For the past 22 years, the CTG program has supported the treatment of 1,193 paintings, works on paper, textiles, furniture, sculpture, and decorative objects.
Over $2 million has been awarded to 546 museums and cultural organizations in 59
of New York’s 62 counties. Of those recipients, 72% have budgets under $1 million.
Examples include:
- a silk tea gown circa 1870-1900
- roman period dog mummy and fragment Egyptian stele
- a c. 1774 silk "Liberty" flag
- a pair of Franco-Flemish limestone statues
- a Newsham hand pumper
- 1850's cast-iron brick-set cooking range
- an oil on canvas painting, 'Strawberry Jello"
- a glazed Della Robbia terracotta sculpture of the Virgin Mary

Beyond the actual conservation of museum objects, treatment allows museums to exhibit more objects, increase public awareness of collection stewardship, and spark further institutional planning.
