This Weekend in Worship

Jesus does great deeds of power and gives his disciples authority over demons. Yet none of this power is unilateral; it all must be received by faith. Jesus asks his disciples to go out without money or supplies, so that they will be dependent on how others receive them. When we are sent from the assembly to witness and to heal, we are asked to be vulnerable, to be dependent on the reception of others. The Spirit always operates in the “between”: between Jesus and his Abba, between Jesus and us, between you and me, between us and those to whom we are sent.

Created to be Free T-Shirt & Goosechase

July 7

Bring your "Created to Be Free" t-shirts to be tie-dyed at the Goosechase Scavenger Hunt event on Sunday, July 7 from 11:30—2:30. We will share a lunch together (free will offering), form teams, and head out to compete in the scavenger hunt around Clive, Waukee, and West Des Moines. Everyone will meet back at Faith to tie-dye shirts. If you don’t want to tie-dye your shirt, someone else will do it for you. Click here to sign up for the Goosechase.

Everyone is invited to wear their shirts on Wednesday, July 17, which is when our youth will wear these shirts at the Youth Gathering.

Civic Life & Faith Discussions

July 14 - August 18

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is developing a social statement on civic life and faith, the relationship of church and state, and related matters, as called for by the 2019 ELCA Churchwide Assembly.

To fully engage in this process, join Pastor Carlson in a six-week series on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:30 am in St. Michael’s Hall, beginning July 14th. We will walk through the main sections of the draft social statement utilizing a study guide, videos, and small group dialogue. Click here for more information and to download a copy of the draft social statement.

Created to be Free Cookout

July 26

On Friday, July 26 from 5:00—9:00 pm a congregational cookout will be held at Walnut Woods State Park Lodge (3155 Walnut Woods Dr., WDM). Hot dogs, hamburgers, lemonade, s’mores, and table service will be provided. A free-will offering will be received. Please bring a salad, side dish, or dessert to share, as well as beverages (alcohol is allowed), and a lawn chair. There will be games and activities for all ages. Everyone will gather in the Lodge at 6:30 for a summertime hymn sing. This event will occur rain-or-shine, as the lodge and outdoor patio are covered. There are opportunities to help with grilling, s’mores supervision, set-up, clean-up, etc. Visit faithlc.org/created-to-be-free to learn more!

Summer Sprouts

Wednesdays

Faith Lutheran Children and Family Ministries invites parents and children (6 and under) to Summer Sprouts on Wednesdays between July 3 - August 14 from 9:30 - 11:00 am on the church playground. This is a time of fellowship and connection for the grown-ups and play for the kids. Older siblings are welcome but will be asked to stay off the playground. There will be stories, snacks (coffee for the adults), art, and play. Bring your friends! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Some Seeds of Faith teachers might even make some guest appearances throughout the summer! Rain location will be Room 106 near the preschool. Call, text, or email Pastor Megan with any questions (641.831.9499 or megan@faithlc.org).
