We are excited to announce Heart of Missouri United Way’s annual Community Campaign Kickoff on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Sentinel Park located in the Arcade District (1214 Eugenia St) from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. Speakers will engage at 12:15 pm, and lunch from Irene’s BBQ will be available. We are proud to have Machens Ford as the presenting sponsor! Hawthorn Bank is sponsoring lunch! We are grateful for the continued support!

This year's community campaign co-chairs, Rhett and Lauren Brengarth, will unveil the goals and impact of our community efforts. Their exceptional leadership is evident through their involvement with the Heart of Missouri United Way and their commitment to community betterment. Rhett Brengarth serves as Senior Vice President-Commercial Banking Team Leader at Commerce Bank, while Dr. Lauren Brengarth is the Assistant Dean of Student Programs and Director of Trulaske Edge at the University of Missouri.

As a part of our Kickoff this year, we have a fun event planned to feature our “Change for Real Change” coin collection event. Large bottles (similar to office water cooler bottles) will be available for pick up at the Kickoff event location for you to take back to your company or organization for your teams to fill with coins during your company’s campaign through the fall.

We invite the community to be “United In Change” with us by bringing their spare change to the kickoff event, and our participating locations around town throughout the fall.

Prizes will be given to the group(s) raising the most change, and there are also company matching opportunities available.

Interested in the Give 5 Program?

We are recruiting for Cohort 7 of our Give 5 Program! Cohort 7 will meet Thursdays, September 19, 26, October 3, 10, and 17 from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. Lunch is provided.

Give 5 is an innovative, community-based program designed for Columbia and Boone County residents, providing a way for retirees and seniors to apply their talents and passions to our community's primary areas of need. By doing so, it also ensures they continue to have purpose and relevance in their lives. This program offers a fun, social opportunity for participants to experience a "taste-testing" of the many and varied volunteer opportunities within our community. At the end of the program, it's hoped participants will commit - at least short term - to "give five" hours a month at one of the program nonprofits.

Expect to have fun, make new friends, and learn about volunteer opportunities that match your talents, passions, and personality.

Check out the Give 5 Facebook page to see photos of the most recent cohorts!

Heart of Missouri United Way held its annual CEO Breakfast on August 9th, hosted by Central Bank of Boone County in their downtown dining room. Over 30 CEOs and business leaders gathered to learn about the most pressing issues facing our community and explore how they can contribute to the solutions.

With the theme “United in Purpose,” Andrew Grabau detailed United Way’s approach, explaining the process of evaluating community needs, investing in specific programs with local partner agencies, assessing the impact of those investments, and enhancing organizational capacity for success. Andrew noted, “…this ‘values cycle’ is what makes Heart of Missouri United Way unique in our approach to addressing the greatest needs in our community.” He also emphasized, “With 98% of Heart of Missouri United Way’s revenue coming from local community support, we view this deliberate approach of ensuring every dollar donated to United Way has impact as a form of stewardship owed to each donor.”

The breakfast concluded with Mitzi Clayton, Chair of the United Way Board of Directors, and other Board members expressing their gratitude to the business leaders and CEOs for their ongoing support and dedication to United Way.
