April 26, 2024

Dear People of St Michael’s,

This Sunday concludes our "nuts and bolts" series where we had conversations about our life together as a church. We discussed Pastoral Care and explored opportunities for outreach, including Associate Rector Mandy's upcoming discernment on forming a lay caregiving community.

Last week, we delved into worship, reflecting on our liturgy since September. We decided to experiment this summer with a new (to us) Bible translation and a new bulletin format.

This Sunday, your vestry is reopening a conversation about values based on feedback from Discernment meetings and fall welcome gatherings. At these gatherings, we identified ideals and beliefs shared by the parish and seek your input to refine them further. These values will inform our mission and/or vision statement and help us name our shared goals for the future. We hope you’ll join us at 10:15am this Sunday in the pavilion, and in prayerful discernment in the coming months.

Blessings,

Mike

April 28 @ 10:15am: Nuts and Bolts Series on Mission and Vision

Over the course of three weeks, we’ll have some big conversations as a congregation. At our third and final meeting on April 28th, the vestry will share the initial report of their work toward a new Mission and Vision statement for the parish. We hope you will join us in this conversation.

May Adult Forum Series on Homelessness with ABQ FaithWorks

Join us for a three-part forum series with Abbey Reed, ABQ FaithWorks Program Director, to hear about the Collaborative’s programs directed toward helping the unhoused in our community. In this series you will learn about different kinds of homeless, structural and systemic challenges, and ways to get involved. The situation is not hopeless; together we can make a real difference! See the schedule below:

  • May 5, FaithWorks’ Rapid ReHousing Program—What are housing vouchers? How do they work? How do you get one? We will examine one way ABQ FaithWorks helps displaced families remain in housing.
  • May 12, FaithWorks’ ID Clinic—We often don't think about everything we use an ID card for. But without one, accessing jobs, housing, and social services like Medicaid can be hard. We will look at common issues those experiencing chronic homelessness face and various issues that cause people to need an ID.
  • May 19, FaithWorks’ Eviction Prevention Program—One way to halt homelessness is to help people remain housed. We will discuss the effects of homelessness and how receiving assistance before eviction can have a profound impact.

May 1: Great Courses Begins The Last Temptation of Christ

The Great Courses class is presenting a series of films on the life of Jesus. Beginning on May 1, we will view The Last Temptation of Christ over two weeks to allow for discussion. May 11 and 22 we will watch Jesus Christ Superstar. Godspell will follow on May 29. Join us in the Pavilion from 1:30-3:30 Wednesday afternoons for the viewings and discussion. Contact Evelyn Hanneman with any questions at euhcnc1949@gmail.com.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?

Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

May 5: Música Antigua de Albuquerque performs Music of the Seasons

On Sunday, May 5, at 4:30pm, Música Antigua de Albuquerque will perform "Four Seasons" by Mary Azarian at St. Michael's. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 seniors, and $10 students. Call 505-842-9613 or visit our website for tickets and more information.

May 9: Next Meeting of The Classics Senior Ministry

The Classics Senior Ministry will be celebrating its 2nd Year Anniversary on Thursday, May 9th at 2:00 pm in the Pavilion. This is the only senior ministry at St. Michael’s, and, we promise good conversation, a few laughs and the opportunity to contribute your thoughts and ideas to this group.

May 11: Drag Queen Brunch and Bingo Sold Out

The LGBTQ+ Ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande will host a Drag Brunch and Bingo Event at St. Michael’s on Saturday, May 11, from 11:00am - 3:00pm. All proceeds benefit the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico. Thank you for everyone who has showed interest in this wonderful event, we are at capacity and are no longer allowing registrations for the Drag Queen Brunch and Bingo.

May 18: Immigration Panel in Parish Hall

All Are Welcome!  On Saturday, May 18, 9:30 AM in the Parish Hall, a panel of asylum seekers living in our community will share their experiences and needs. Everyone is invited to hear their stories and join in shaping the parish response in our ever-evolving ministry. Don't miss it!

Registration for Camp Stoney is Ongoing!

Come spend some time this summer in Christian community in the mountains outside of Santa Fe. Activities include hiking, swimming, archery, gaga ball and other games, arts & crafts, Chrisitan formation and worship--all in the beautiful Sangre de Cristos! See the flyer below for more information or reach out to Mother Mandy. Two important notes: The Very Best Weekend Ever, Session I, will be a bilingual family camp; and Mandy will be serving as chaplain at How will they know we are Christians: Session I (for rising 3rd-8th graders) and would love to have a large contingent from St. Michael's in attendance.

Office Spring Cleaning

In the upcoming weeks, we will be doing a thorough spring cleaning of St. Michael's office and buildings. As we reorganize, inventory, and clean, we will be unable to accept any items outside of the solicited donations from The Landing, Las Familias Solidarity, and Casa San Miguel Food Pantry. Please do not drop off anything at the office (including books) other than the items specifically requested by these ministries. We encourage all ministries to clean their program areas as we get the church ready for the upcoming season.

April 28: Next Drop Off Date for Las Familias Solidarity

"There was no choice but to connect with the sense of compassion, humanity, caring and spirituality so abundant in all three shelters."  One of our volunteers wrote on her first journey with us to the Annunciation House shelters in El Paso. Help us connect with these senses to asylum seeking families on our next trip on May 1st. Get any items to St. Michael and All Angels by Sunday, April 28th. Please understand that due to a lack of space in our SUV’s and the shelters these are the only items that we can accept:

  • Used sheets or tablecloths in pastels or patterns for making girl's dresses.
  • New coloring books for children
  • Lip balm or chapstick
  • Small brushes and combs
  • Disinfecting cleaning spray
