Luvk9s June monthly newsletter
It's almost June and time for "hot fun in the summertime." Even though (most of) our dogs are covered with fur, they are still susceptible to sunburn. Attention needs to be paid to ears, noses and their underbelly. The sun's rays can be reflected up onto your dog's belly from sidewalks, sand and water.

If your dog is hairless, has a thin coat or has had hair loss, you may want to consider purchasing some protective outerwear. You can even purchase sun screen for Fido! Who knew? The Whole Dog Journal recommends the following products: Emmy's Best Pet Products Sun Skin Protector, Lucky Pup SPF 40 lotion sunscreen, My Dog Nose It! sun protection balm and Warren London Dog Sunscreen Spray.

Click here for tips on how to treat mild cases of sunburn; in the case of severe burns, take your dog to the vet as soon as possible.
Chewing Bully sticks safely

What is a bully stick? Bestbullysticks.com describes this product as a "single ingredient dog chew that is made from high protein beef muscle, specifically the pizzle of a bull." Sounds disgusting but dogs love them!

The downside of this treat is that dogs often swallow the last few inches whole, which can be dangerous and result in choking. Several companies addressed this issue by developing a holder that stops the dog from being able to do so.

The Whole Dog Journal recently did a study of the best holder; the Bully Grip came out on top.

Vacationing with Fido
It’s summertime, and as Porgy noted, “the livin’ is easy.” This is the time for traveling and vacationing, often with your canine companion in tow.
