Book Launch for "Massacre on the Merrimack" by Jay Atkinson

The Nevins Library is proud to host the Launch Party for Methuen native, Jay Atkinson's eighth book, Massacre on the Merrimack: Hannah Duston's Captivity & Revenge in Colonial America. This pre-publication launch will be a celebration of this compelling work of non-fiction by one of our finest local writers. Open to the public, the Launch will be held at
6pm on Friday evening, September 11
and will feature a reading and signing by the author. There will be refreshments and copies of the book will be for sale. Publisher's Weekly has said of the book "A strong sense of place and vivid narration underscore journalist Atkinson's tale of war, survival, and murder in colonial Massachusetts.

Friends of the Nevins Library Book Sale

Come browse the Nevins Library Fall Book Sale, and find great books at great prices. The sale will be held on the following dates:

Friday, September 25th         5pm - 8pm (Preview - pay $20 for early admission to the sale)
Saturday, September 26th   9am-5pm
Sunday, September 27th     12noon -4pm
Monday, September 28th   9am-8pm (Bargain Bag Day)

This year the Friends will also be selling their popular featured item-their line of Book Pages Jewelry on Saturday only . This handcrafted jewelry is made from the pages of discarded books and sheet music and will make a perfect holiday gift for the bookworm in your life!

The sale kicks off on Friday evening, with a paid Preview sale; shoppers pay $20 to get early access to the sale, and get first choice of books. On Saturday join the excited crowds to buy, buy, buy.   For book shoppers who prefer a quieter atmosphere for browsing, Sunday the sale will be open from Noon to 4pm. And finally Monday will be Bargain Bag Day-buy a grocery bag for $8 from the Friends and fill it with as many books as you can!

Author Visits in September....

September is an active month for readers coming to the library.  We have two wonderful authors joining us this month.

First, Randy Susan Myers, author of " Accidents of Marriage", will speak here about this newest novel on Saturday,  September 19 at 1pm.  This novel received a starred review From Kirkus who wrote "Beautifully written, poignant and thought-provoking, this novel refuses to succumb to stereotypical reader expectation, making it even more memorable."

On Thursday, September 24 at 7pm,  Michael Blanding, author of "The Map Thief" will discuss his book about map dealer E Forbes Smiley, who systematically sliced priceless antique maps out of rare books and sold them to unsuspecting collectors around the world.  Find out how he was able to perpetrate these crimes for so long and how he was ultimately caught by authorities.

Children's Programming Gears up for the Fall

The Children's Department is back in the swing of things this month with many of their most popular programs restarting for the school year.  Check the Calendar of Events for more information about dates and times.  There are activities for all ages up to sixth grade so take a look and be amazed!!
