What is Messenger of Safety

Messenger of Safety (MOS) aims to promote a culture of safety and dialogue for mutual understanding, reward Leaders who follow safety protocols, support the development safety in all activities, and foster a Safety-first mentality through MOS.

 

Join others as we earn the team MOS patch! With only a few additional tasks you can earn the prestigious new MOS knot.

 

MOS is designed with three aspects which will help build and strengthen a culture of Safety and create an even safer environment:

Learn – Learn how to identify potential safety risks

See – Look for safety hazards

Do – Teach safety to others

Nashville Friends of Scouting Patron Luncheon

The Middle Tennessee Council is hosting the annual Nashville Patron Luncheon on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the Music City Center from 11:30am - 1:00pm.  We're looking for Scouts from ages 7-18  (parents are welcome), to represent all programs and to help out at this very important event. Scouts would need to arrive at the Music City Center at 10:30 a.m. in full field uniform (Class A from top to bottom). Scouts will act as greeters, collect pledge cards, and pose for pictures. Lunch is provided to Scouts and Parents.

2025 Scout Cards Sale

The 2025 Middle Tennessee Council’s Scout Card Sale will begin on February 20, 2025, and run through April 19, 2025. This year’s $10.00 Scout Card will help your Scouts earn their way to camp and the unit will earn 50% commission on every card sold!

Catholic Scouters Region 5 Conference

The Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Diocese of Nashville invites you to join Catholic Scouters from the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee on February 21- 22, 2025 for the 2nd annual Region 5 Catholic Scouter's Conference. 


The meetings will be held at the Knights of Columbus Council 4972 Hall located at 3129 McGavock Pike beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21. Meetings that include current Scouting topics will continue on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. February 22. If lodging is required for the event you can reserve a room at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Nashville at Opryland for the group rate of $145.00 per night.

Ten Commandments Hike

Scouts are encouraged to attend mass. Registration will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the 5 mike hike in the neighboring Crockett Park. There will be 10 different representatives at 10 different stations for each commandment.

Join us March 1st, and get ready for an action-packed day of learning, adventure, and hands-on fun at Cubworld – a camp designed just for Cub Scouts and their families! While older siblings tackle Merit Badge Days, younger Scouts will embark on their own exciting journey in Ready, Set, Safe! This STEM-focused event features engaging activities where Cub Scouts can earn electives while exploring safety, first aid, and even detective work!

The Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Diocese of Nashville invites you to join fellow members of the diocese for a tour of the oldest church still in operation, the diocesan cathedral, and two other churches of significance in the history of the Diocese of Nashville. The Trail of Churches will take place on March 1, 2025, starting at St. Mary of the Seven Sorrows at 7:45 a.m., with the church tour beginning at 8:00 a.m. The Cathedral tour will start at 10:00 a.m., followed by lunch on your own. Afterward, we will gather again at St. Patrick's Church at 1:00 p.m., concluding the tour at Holy Name Church at 2:30 p.m. Join us to earn your Trail of Churches patch for $8.00 per person.


2025 Scout and Volunteer Recognition Reception

Mark your calendar! Middle Tennessee Council is proud to recognize our 2024 Class of Eagle Scouts at our annual Eagle Scout and Volunteer Recognition Celebration.  On Sunday, May 4, 2025, starting at 1:30 p.m. at Hillsboro High School – Auditorium. Parking is behind the High School in the parking garage. During the event we will honor those Scouts that earned the rank of Eagle Scout, Venturing Summit Award, or Sea Scout Quartermaster during the 2024 calendar year. Scouts should wear their field uniform (also known as a Class A uniform) or be nicely dressed. For questions, please contact our Eagle Registrar, Cheryl Leach, at Cheryl.Leach@scouting.org or call the Scout Service Center at 615-383-9724.

Climbing and Rappelling

The Middle Tennessee Council Cope and Climbing Committee provides a unit level training program for climbing and rappelling. The program requires two weekends to complete. At the end of the first weekend you will qualify to receive your Climbing Instructor Level I trained card (valid 1 year). Then coming to a second session and helping provide instruction, and exhibiting proficiency in the taught skills, will qualify you to receive your Climbing Instructor Level II card (valid 3 years).


Each session Starts on Friday evening @ 6 p.m. and concludes on Sunday evening around 6 p.m. Locations include Boxwell Reservation and on Sunday a natural rock area about 2 hours from Boxwell.

Round TUIT

It's great to hear that the Volunteer Adult Service Crew, known as the ROUND TUIT program, is starting up again! This program involves adult volunteers who lead projects at three of our Council properties: Boxwell, Grimes, and Parish. Here are the important details for each property:

Family Scouting

Resident Camp at Boxwell Reservation-Cubworld offer a unique, family, fun camping experience for you and your Scouting Family. All you need to bring is your gear; we will provide the program, food, tent, cot, mat, and an exciting experience.


Our summer camp experience is like no other as we want you to bring your whole Pack and Family to camp to have a fun Family experience and pick from one of our sessions of camp in the month of June! However, each session of our summer camp is limited to 150 Scouts. So please plan your calendars accordingly, and be sure not to miss on the fun!

Scouts BSA Summer Camp

"Boxwell’s Got Talent" is a great opportunity for Scouts to showcase their unique abilities in a fun and supportive environment. This annual event encourages young Scouts to step outside their comfort zones, highlighting everything from artistic performances to practical skills. 2025 Wood Badge

Wood Badge is Scouting’s most advanced training for adults offered at the Council level. A national course open only to Scouting volunteers and professionals, the training has two distinct parts. The first part takes place outdoors where the aims and methods of Scouting are explained and demonstrated by a volunteer staff of fellow Scouters, During the second part, participants will show their knowledge of leadership principles by completing a set of personal goals related to their Scouting positions.

Council Committee Changes

The Middle Tennessee Council is pleased to announce five new Council Committee volunteer chairs:

  • Activities and Civic Service Committee - Chair Michelle Burk and Advisor James Gattis;
  • Advancement - Chair Jeff Buck and Advisor James Gattis;
  • Camping – Chair Bill Hickman and Advisor Jason Flannery;
  • Training - Chair Michael Moore and Advisor Scotty Harrell. 
  • Overseeing these committees is Roland Myers, the Council's Vice President of Program, with Advisor Vance Lackey.

To highlight just a few responsibilities of the committees: Activities and Civic Service organizes day camps and Scouting for Food; Advancement handles merit badge counselors and Eagle Scout approvals; summer camp and the Order of the Arrow work with Camping; and, Training serves the needs of IOLS, BALOO, NYLT, and Wood Badge courses.
