RDCO NEWS

2023-2027 water fees and charges

Date: January 16, 2023

Updated Upper Fintry, Shalal Road, Valley of the Sun water fees

The Regional Board adopted the Upper Fintry Water System Fees and Charges Amendment Bylaw No. 1522 and the RDCO Water System Regulations Bylaw No. 1513 on January 12. The Fees and Charges Bylaw sets out the fees for the next five years and were last reviewed in 2019 with incremental increases every year for inflation.

Water fees are composed of User and Asset Renewal Fees. User Fees apply to all actively serviced parcels and cover operational costs of the water system. Asset Renewal Fees apply to all lots within the service area and partially fund planned capital projects. Since 2019 there has been increases in inflation affecting the cost of materials, labour, service, and construction. These rate adjustments are necessary to ensure a financially sustainable water system. The table outlines the fees until 2027 which includes annual inflationary adjustments.

These new fees will be reflected on your first quarter invoice in April and result in an increase of approximately $18 for an average Upper Fintry water system connection per billing period.

FEBRUARY 2023 MOON CALENDAR

THE FULL SNOW MOON

February’s full moon is called a snow moon because it is common to experience snow this time of year in the northern hemisphere during the month of February.

The term snow moon is used in both Northern America and Europe to describe the full moon in February. However, the moon has multiple names, but they all share similarities. Native North Americans sometimes referred to the moon as the “hunger moon” and “bone moon” due to the lack of food sources at that time of year. Other variations include the “storm moon,” perhaps in relation to the harsh weather conditions found in some climates at this time of year.
