An Attitude of Gratitude!
Hello Knightdale! November is the month where many people focus on appreciating the wonderful things around them. For me, that means being grateful for the great work going on in our community and the people who make amazing things happen throughout Knightdale. I'm so excited about the many positive things going on around town, and I wanted to share just a few going on with our citizens and community.

Youth Leader Begins Council Meeting
The Town Council and I were honored to have Laila Heyward, a Neuse River Middle School student, open up our October Town Council Meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Laila is in the eighth grade, and she is an honor roll student, a BETA club member, and an active participant in the NRMS theater program. She starred as Snoopy in their performance of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown!" She even started a step team this past year at her school! We love seeing students succeed, and we are so grateful to have hosted her. Thank you for your service, Laila!

Knightdale Celebrates The 1st Annual
Live Like Ryan Community Day of Remembrance
| |
Knightdale took a day to remember a very special member of our police family on October 15. Officer Ryan Hayworth was tragically killed last year on October 17, 2021.
The day was full of fond memories of Ryan, his friends and family, and nuggets of all areas of Ryan's life. All of the music was from his personal playlist, and many members of the Knightdale Police Department and his family spoke about his life and the impact he had on us all.
The family also introduced the Live Like Ryan Foundation, a non-profit organization that plans to award competitive scholarships to kids and teens who desire to become involved in wholesome, life changing opportunities, such as youth camps or mission trips.
The entire day was beautiful, and I'm grateful to Chief Lawrence Capps of the Knightdale Police Department for his leadership with this event. Please take a moment to watch a recap of the event below.

Citizens Planning Academy Graduates |
Congratulations to the latest graduating class of the Citizens Planning Academy!
These citizens took the time to learn all about development services: how businesses come to Knightdale, how developments get approved, the various processes for planning, and so much more! Thank you so much to the Development Services Director, Jason Brown, and Senior Planner Donna Goodman for their excellent guidance through these courses. I look forward to the engagement that will happen as a result of these citizens' involvement!

Firefighters Brad Wester, Xavier Manning, Mike Sok, Blake Ellis, Kendall Whitley, Will Densmore, Anothony Parrinello, and Michael Carr participated in the badge pinning ceremony at the FY21-22 Graduation, Promotions, and Awards Ceremony to mark the end of their probationary period.

Three members of the department were promoted to the rank of Captain at the graduation (above): Brandon Murray, Michael Miller, and Sam Walker.
The Town Council and I are so grateful for the leadership of Fire Chief Loren Cone. Thank you for all you do to keep our Knightdale citizens safe, and congratulations to you and your crew!
The Town of Knightdale will join Wake County and participate in Operation Green Light this November 7-13. Operation Greenlight is a new, national collaborative initiative to support military veterans, as well as raise awareness about the unique challenges they may face as they return to life as civilians.
Knightdale will be showing its support by illuminating green lights in our town buildings during this time. You can show YOUR support by changing one light bulb in your house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends. Green lights can be purchased easily on Amazon. Also, be sure to share your participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenlight!

The Knightdale Citizen Survey
is Underway!
|
The Town administrators work together each year to make strategic decisions for Knightdale, its citizens and all of the various communities. But those decisions impact YOU, which is why we want to get your input! We value your opinions, thoughts and feedback when it comes to the services we consider and provide as we look to create the future of our town.
Please take 15 to 20 minutes to take this confidential survey, and let us know your thoughts about the direction of Knightdale. Thank you so much for your consideration!
| |
I hope you can join me at the following Town events!
Please join us on Sunday, November 13, at 2 pm, as we honor and pay tribute to our military veterans at our Veterans Memorial in the heart of Knightdale Station Park.
Before you run to the table for turkey, join the Town at Knightdale Station Park for the Turkey Leg 5K on Saturday, November 19, at 8 am! Runners or walkers are welcome. Dogs are allowed but must remain on a leash and under the owner's control (and all waste must be picked up).
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about anything going on in our amazing town of Knightdale!
