Happy Pride! June is a month-long celebration of LGBTQIA+ pasts, presents, and futures. We reflect on where we've come from and on the journey ahead. Pride Month has a special resonance for many in the independent bookseller community, who, from a young age, sought to see their identities reflected and explored, and the possibilities for their lives expanded, in books. In some cases, books helped provide us with a language to explain some of the most profound questions about our selves. It's an honor and a joy to be able to put those books in the hands of those who need them.
On a less existential level...June is also the month to scoop up those summer reading titles, and books for dads, grandads and father figures. As local schools release their required reading lists, we're hard at work ordering those titles and displaying them--so you can make at least one thing on your to-do list a breeze to check off. And don't hesitate to come talk to us for some out-of-the-box suggestions for the bookish Dad.

This immigrant story, set in New York and China over three decades, is told from the perspective of three characters: Tony, his daughter Tammy, and family friend/acquaintance Oliver. The story alternated between these characters as well as multiple timelines in a non-chronological order (i.e. you need to really pay attention or else you will be confused). This book grapples with privilege, complicated family dynamics, the ripple effects of one's decisions, and heartbreak. A devastating twist towards the end of the book kept me turning the pages until I was finished. A great debut! I'm excited to see what this author does next.

A fascinating memoir that reveals much about the author as well as his subject, his German grandfather, a Nazi manager in small-town France. The author spent many years researching his grandfather's life to reveal an honest and unsparing story that is deeply personal and reveals details that most history books do not cover. Hard to put this one down!

Prairie Dance specializes in handcrafted wall and desktop art featuring favorite song lyrics or sayings. We've all been enjoying these lovely, bronze-patinaed metal signs that have recently hung next to our front window. Bring one home to brighten up your own space, though we can't be held responsible for an increase in earworms.

Teddy (dog) and Molly (human) are both longtime Wellesley Books customers. Teddy is seventeen years old and has been coming here his whole life. Though he’s currently in hospice and has a hard time eating, he still enjoyed some biscuits from both counters! A lifelong lover of books and bookstores, Teddy's favorite book is Frog and Toad. Thank you for brightening our day, Teddy and Molly!
