Car Payment
USN Gulf War Veteran in Boulder County developed a severe foot infection requiring daily IV antibiotic treatments. He couldn’t walk, drive, or work because of the disease. Qualified Listeners transported him to the hospital for the ten daily therapies. He was on unpaid medical leave with his employer. Upon completing the treatments and returning to work, his hours were less due to his foot condition and limited standing time. When he could not work, he fell behind on rent and other monthly expenses. Before his foot condition, he consistently paid his obligations. He reached out to Qualified Listeners for assistance. We made his two final car payments allowing him to drive to and from work so he could pay his other monthly expenses. Winter Fuel
Vietnam Air Force Veteran north of Fort Collins was recently diagnosed with Retinol Myopathy and is rapidly losing his vision, and his homebound wife is ill with several brain tumors. They use propane to heat both house and barn, where the Veteran spends much of his time. They have an older 4-wheel drive truck which becomes their primary vehicle in winter. Because where they live, it’s challenging to go anywhere without a 4-wheel drive. Both the gasoline and propane tanks are usually filled before winter sets in to last them through the season. However, they couldn’t purchase their fuel this year and contacted Qualified Listeners for help. Through one of our funding partners in Denver, we supplied them with enough petroleum products to keep them warm and functional.
