As child care has become an important economic development issue the Chisago County HRA-EDA was approached by the Initiative Foundation to begin working toward solutions to aid this crisis. After a child care study was completed, Chisago County showed to have a large deficit in child care and the HRA-EDA pulled together partners to create the Chisago County Child Care Coalition. This coalition was established to create goals to focus on resolving the childcare needs in the county. One of the goals for this coalition was to "explore and establish supportive services and resources to current and potential providers."

On February 1st a Child Care Champion Training was hosted by the coalition in partnership with North Branch Community Education to support the goal. This training event consisted of three courses that counted toward providers required continuing education, vendors whom providers could visit with and make purchases and of course, networking with their peers. This event was a success and will continue as an annual event for providers.

In 2022, the Chisago County HRA-EDA embarked on a project to assess the county's labor force, with the goal of driving expansion in the manufacturing, warehousing, and supply chain sectors. Partnering with C&W, this initiative aimed to support the county's growth and economic development.

Key Focus Areas

1. Industry Identification: Identified the primary industries operating in Chisago County, specifically in manufacturing, supply chain, and warehousing sectors.

2. Occupation Analysis: Pinpointed the top occupations for employment within the county, concentrating on those areas critical to manufacturing, supply chain, and warehousing.

3. Volume and Growth Assessment: Evaluated and compared the volume, concentration, and job growth within these key industries and occupations.

4. Target Industry Groups: Developed targeted groups of industries and occupations for further detailed analysis.

5. Commuting Patterns: Analyzed the commuting patterns of workers within the target occupations, both into and out of Chisago County.

This thorough assessment provides valuable insights and strategic direction for expanding and strengthening Chisago County's labor force in these critical sectors. As the county continues to grow and evolve, the HRA-EDA's proactive approach ensures that Chisago County remains a vibrant and prosperous community for businesses and residents alike.
