Dear Shawnee UMC Family,
Please join us this Sunday for Worship
in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.
The Scripture for Pastor Changsu's message will be:
Luke 14:7-10
Humility and Hospitality
7 When he noticed how the guests chose the places of honor, he told them a parable. 8 “When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not sit down at the place of honor, in case someone more distinguished than you has been invited by your host, 9 and the host who invited both of you may come and say to you, ‘Give this person your place,’ and then in disgrace you would start to take the lowest place. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher’; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.
Please email them to:
maryann13fenstermacher@gmail.com.
Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:
Ephesians 4:29-32 Don't let any foul words come out to your mouth. Only say what is helpful when it is needed for building up the community so that it benefits those who hear what you say. Don't make the Holy Spirit of God unhappy—you were sealed by him for the day of redemption. Put aside all bitterness, losing your temper, anger, shouting, and slander, along with every other evil. Be kind, compassionate, and forgiving to each other, in the same way God forgave you in Christ.
Ezekiel 36:23-27 I will make my great name holy, which was degraded among the nations when you dishonored it among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord. This is what the Lord God says. When I make myself holy among them in my sight, I will take you from the nations, I will gather you from all the countries, and I will bring you to your own fertile land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be cleansed of all your pollution. I will cleanse you of all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you. I will remove your stony heart from your body and replace it with a living one, and I will give you my spirit so that you may walk according to my regulations and carefully observe all my laws.
Psalm 33:18-22 But look here: the Lord's eyes watch all who honor him, all who wait for his faithful love, to deliver their lives from death and keep them alive during a famine. We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. Our heart rejoices in God because we trust his holy name. Lord, let your faithful love surround us because we wait for you.
Matthew 11:7-15 When John's disciples had gone, Jesus spoke to the crowds about John: “What did you go out to the wilderness to see? A stalk blowing in the wind? What did you go out to see? A man dressed up in refined clothes? Look, those who wear refined clothes are in royal palaces. What did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. He is the one of whom it is written: Look, I'm sending my messenger before you, who will prepare your way before you. I assure you that no one who has ever been born is greater than John the Baptist. Yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven is violently attacked as violent people seize it. All the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John came. If you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. Let the person who has ears, hear...”

Old Shawnee Days is fast approaching! The City’s theme this year is “A Day in Shawnee”. We are tying into that theme with a salute to the men and women of the armed forces. As Shawnee welcomed our troops home, so does SUMC.
We will be decorating our float on Friday, June 7th starting at 6:00pm. We encourage members to join us to help and have fun and fellowship.
For those who want to walk in the parade – meet us as we line up (likely along frontage road by KFC on Shawnee Mission Parkway) anytime between 9:30 and 10:00.
If you are a Veteran, we need you to ride in the parade – either on the float or on Bill Bloom’s military vehicle. You would meet us at the Church House/Annex on Saturday morning between 8:45 and 9:00. No walking needed!
Please reach out to a member of the Parade Committee – Mary McCoy, Nancy or Bill Bloom, Kevin or Christine Schneier, or Cindy or Shane Gentry so we know who is coming.
